Almost every day I see a post on one of the forums mainly Video Studio but can also occur in Media Studio and Movie Factory forums where someone has asked for a cure for a choppy capture.
My system has been capturing as smooth as silk for a long time, so when I suddenly developed a choppy capturing problem, where the capture was a bit like a learner driver in a car running on "Kangaroo Juice" I knew a few facts.
1. My System was up to it.
2. My Software should be OK as I have been capturing for a long time.
3. I have installed the latest Hot fixes for Media Studio - but for the time being I do not suspect that as a fault but will keep it in mind.
4. I swapped my 64MB Geoforce 4 graphics card for a 128MB Geoforce 4 graphics card. Again I did not see this as the cause and would keep this in mind.
So OK what was the problem.... I thought I would post this whilst still fresh in my mind as it may be a cure for some other users who have this problem.
I use removable hard drives and so the actual problem could have been caused in one of two ways. Either the constant pulling the hard drive in and out of the carrier, or at the time of the simple exchange of the video card.
Visually the connections looked perfect but I got my thumb and gave all of the IDE cables a good press into their sockets.
Job done, problem cured.
Again I only post this for the benefit of anyone else with this as a possible cause of their problem. A simple point easily overlooked.
