Windows XP 64 bit edition

Post by Strtline »

Hello:

Does anyone know if Ulead has plans to support the Windows XP 64 bit edition. I have Videostudion installed on a 64 bit dual core system and it works but a) does not take advantage of the 64 bit dual core processor and b) updates wo't install

Thanks

Hi Strtline,

VS certainly will run quicker on a dual core system - both AMD and Intel dual core cpu's will render video files noticeably faster than a similarly clocked single core cpu.

I'm not sure if you're saying that you are running a 64 bit operating system with your 64 bit dual core cpu - perhaps you might fill in the "system" info in your profile. It would be good to get more results from someone with a fast dual core setup. Certainly if you have an AMD 64, you won't find many applications that can take advantage of the 64 bit architecture - and I believe Linux is the only OS out there right now with a 64 bit version. The improvements in the AMD 64 made it about 25% faster for a given clock speed than the previous 32 bit Athlon, even running plain 32 bit Windows, but its 64 bit capability came years in advance of a 64 bit operating system.

It's anyone's guess what will happen in the future - 3 months is a long time in pc development - and on Wall St, they think it's long term planning when someone asks, "what's for lunch?"

Hello 2Dogs:

Thanks for the replay. Did as you suggested and updated my profile. Updated my system from Athlon 3800+ to 64 bit dual core version of same processor. Also added some SATA 300 drives. Everything else remained the same. AVI to MPeg conversion of 2+ hour source file used to take 11 hours (2 pass - variable bit rate - 6000). With dual core 64 bit takes 4+ hours. Running Windows XP 64 bit version but VS9 still only 32 bit not really taking advantage of processor. Just wonder what would happen if there was a 64 bit version of VS9!!
