In addition to the ATI card mentioned in my previous post I have purchased the ATI TV WONDER ELITE which has a built-in MPEG2 encoder and decoder.
I noticed that most programs I use to read MPEG2 files now show a special window entitled something like "now playing video". In Windows Movie Maker for example the video plays in that window. I am guessing this is due to the MPEG2 decoder but it does not affect my ability to read/slice/skip the file.
Now my problem is that in VS9 I can capture perfectly (with sound unlike with the Hauppauge card) but when I review my captured video and try to skip to ahead the sound skips but the image is that from the beginning.
Another issue I noticed is that when I select the DIVX capture format the image is very chisled: I have a pixelization in the form of diagonal bars.
Any suggestions? All I would like to do is record a full tape into a nice MPEG2 format, Split the movie in parts then make a DVD.... Nothing very elaborate.
Tonight I will try Cyberlink's product to see...
I have already tried and ruled out Muvee Trial Version, Windows Movie Maker and Sony's Vegas 6 Trial Version (doesn't handle MPEG2 in trial mode!!!!)

In that case, avoid DivX !...when I select the DIVX capture format... All I would like to do is record a full tape... make a DVD....
DivX is MPEG4 and standard video DVDs are MPEG2.
Captue to AVi/DV, or capture to MPEG2 and try to avoid re-coding the MPEG2.

You are really MUCH better off using the ATI video recorder to
capture dvd compliant video and then import those videos into
authoring applications.
The ATI software captures Mpeg4 really nice with many encoding options.
(You shouldn't edit Mpeg4 video, it's to compressed & complex).
But the software works great to make a short home video & send via email.
The ATI recording software has a much lower cpu usage because it's there product and their machine code.
Even if the ATI software can't capture dolby converting the pcm or mpeg audio to Dolby is fast using MF4 or VS.
Takes maybe 2 or 3 minutes longer to convert.
If you insist on capturing with Ulead check your soundcard settings (mixer) for any "What You Hear" or "Monitor while recording".
Those are nortorious for interfering with the audio recording.
Hope this helps,
