I know many people turn off background tasks, networking, etc when working on video. How do you accomplish this. I believe I have setup a good solution by having a dual boot system where the second boot option is setup for the best environment I have learned for video capture and processing.
I was thinking of coming up with another solution by maybe creating different logins and setting certain system services to be user specific. Any great ideas out there? Should I stick with what I created? Is it the best scenario?

I'll add to that. I do not know much about systems, and the inner workings of a computer, but I would like to shut down any non essential processes, can anyone give me an example of some processes that I can safely shut down, for video and not hurt the computer preformance, but later bring them back to do other things with my computer

The biggest offender will be disk-intensive processes like antivirus tools or the Disk Indexing Service.
Most AV tools let you exclude specific locations or file types from scanning, and that is preferable to turning AV protection off entirely. The Disk Indexing Service can be turned off by bringing up the Properties page for the drive(s) in Explorer.
I don't turn off anything else.
