Video Studio 8 won't recognize ADS Instant DVD 2

Post by dskaff »

My PC is running Windows XP Home, 2.6GHz, 1GB RAM. Capture device is ADS Instant DVD 2. Video Studio is version 8 upgrade with all patches etc. When I run program it won't recognize the capture device, but it does see my Logitech Quick Cam & my Hauppauge TV Card. Does anyone know what I can do to fix this?

As far as I can tell your capture device is not supported by VS8, unless you got it as a bundled package with the driver for your device.

I have a Hauppauge PVR250 that is supported by VS9, but I use the Hauppauge program to capture video. VS9 doesn't give you the options that the Hauppauge program gives you.

You should the app that came with your ADS device and open the video with VS8.

You should [use] the app that came with your ADS device...
I agree. Your ADS box should have come with a program called Capture Wizard.

My hypothesis is that video capture drivers are not as standardized as common computer peripherals like printers, and the Ulead programs may not know how to communicate with the particular driver. (I assume that the Ulead programs are "thrown-in" because Ulead probably lets hardware manufacturers distribute the SE versions of their programs for very little or no cost.)

Resolved Problem & FYI More...

Thanks for your advise. I investigated further with ADS & they suggested the following steps which fixed the problem. FYI: VS 8 does support ADS Instant DVD 2. This is what I did:

1. Verified if the new drivers are installed, went to the device manager > Sound, Video and Game controllers > double-click ADS Instant DVD 2.0 > Driver tab > looked at the driver date. The date should be 11/22/2004.

2. Un-installed old CapWiz and other related programs before installing version 3.6. To Begin removing the existing version - Go to Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs

Un-Install the following:
ADS Tech CapWiz V3.x CapWiz
ADS Tech CapWiz V3.x CapWiz Master Installer
Ulead Straight-to-Disc SDK

3. During Un-Install of CapWiz and CapWiz Master installer, select CUSTOM, and then click “Select All” on every screen. This will give you the cleanest un-install and fully clear the system registry of the previous installation. Once CapWiz application is un-installed, Perform the same instructions above for the Ulead Straight-to-Disc SDK

4. Restart the computer

5. Installing CapWiz 3.6: Download the CapWiz update. This will be a compressed or .zip file. This is a self extracting zip file, just double click and the file will open. The CapWiz installer requires both the CapWizsetup.exe and Setup.ini files to be un-zipped in the same folder. With both files in a folder, double click CapWizsetup.exe and follow the installation steps.

6. Download the latest updates on Video Studio 8 from the below website and then reboot the computer after installing the updates.

7. Check if correct Capture Plug-in is selected in Video Stuido 8.

Click on Tools > Change Capture Plug-in… > select ADS Instant DVD USB2 Capture Plug-in from the drop-down menu > and then click OK to confirm changes.

These step should fix the problem for anyone else who may experience it.
