Post by wagonstuntman »

Nature of the problem:

hey guys,

Image

i want to insert the video clip in that specific spot, but whenever i drag my clip into that time, the clip goes all the way to the beginning/start. i cannot figure out a way to have it start where i want! im about to pull all my hairs out. :x :x :x :x

Properties of your source files: canon powershot sd410 camera

What devices are involved and their mode of connection?: loaded vids onto computer then into the program.

Output format (file, DVD, VCD, SVCD): .wmv

PAL or NTSC: not a clue.

any help will be greatly appreciated!

You can't place it in a specific spot on the primary video track. You can on the overlay track, but it will always move to the end of the last clip on the primary line. You show to have something on the overlay track, so you could insert a color clip in the primary and extend it to reach where you want this to start. That would give you the placeholder you need to drop your video in at the point you want.

Hi Wagonstuntman,

The reason it goes to the beginning is there is nothing there to stop it.

VS9 has ripple editing, meaning that when a clip is removed from the main track, all clips to the right of the removed clip will slide to the left. The other tracks, overlay, text, and audio ripple according to changes in the main track.

Now in order to do what you want, you have to place something there to occupy that space. Hi-end editors such as MSP, allows insertion of blank space, VS does not. But what you can do is insert a color clip in that space, and make the duration of the color clip an amount so you can place your video clip where you want. What ever color your background is, black, white, blue, or whatever, is what color clip I would use.
You could also apply a brightness filter to the color clip. The customize the filter, changing the brightness and contrast to -100 on both the first and last keyframes.

Hope that helps ya! :)

Wagonman,

While I will take that compliment, I know many others who will argue against you.

Actually, all of the credit goes to you. That attached picture was worth a thousand words.

I never use the timeline in VS9 I don't do any fancy things with my projects, so I use the story board mode.

You can also disable the ripple editing mode if you use the timeline. This wil allow you to have clips back to back on the timeline.

Oh dear tyamada - you never add background music, you never add a narration - you never add a title - you never add a frame or overlay - not "fancy things" surely but an enhancement to your video - you really are missing a great deal from the package which you already have.

dis-ableing ripple editing will still not allow you to have spaces in the top (primary) timeline which is what wagonstuntman wanted.

I don't do anything fancy with VS9 becasue it is too unstable, I use other programs to do what I need. I use it to mostly multi trim video and create a dvd. Menus are annoying and I don't use them.

I use Media Studio Pro 8 also but it too is unstable.
