How display tooltips for transitions?

Post by Helge »

When I drag one video or image over the previous in the same track to create a transition MSP8 somtimes displays a tooltip window which shows how much the two videos overlap. I find this much helpful. E.g. if i want every transition to have the same length.
But unfortunatly MSP8 also sometimes does not display this tooltip. First I thougth that it depends how much I had zoomed in, but changing the zoom does not help. This happens during eding the same project with only a few seconds distance. If the tooltip is not displayed I find no way to show it.
Is there any trick to switch it on or off?

Yup! Hover over the transition in the corresponding audio track! (Logical, isn't it? :) )

Sorry, nice idea, but does not work. If MSP has decided not to show the tooltip, you can hover where you want :) . But even if it would work, there would remain a problem: not every video has an audio track, e.g. images dont have, so there is no transition in audio.

You can work out how long your overlap is if you look at the status bar at the bottom right of your screen.

If you select a transition and then right-click/Duration you can not only see the exact duration in frames but set it to whatever you want.

If it fits your project importing clips and auto-apply the default transition using the Storyboards "Add to Timeline" dialog lets you set their duration with frame accuracy from the get-go.

Thanks for the tips, I knew that there are alternative ways to do it (I had to do it with some of this ways). But the tooltips seem to me one of the most comfortable way and I still do not understand why they sometimes work and sometimes not. I did not so much in between. I replaced the type of transition, zoomed a little bit and reordered some of the images in the timeline. Berhaps I also switched ripple mode.
I will continue to experiment and post it here if I found a solution. Might be that it would be easier if I could look at the source code of MSP :) .

(One of my colleagues usually jokes after he had asked me how something works: Now he will look at his documentation - the source code. Yes, I reply. Thats the best documentaion :) )
