PHOTO IMPACT 11- bought it a few days ago and Guess What???

Post by pmedia »

Knock on wood-

Hi all I am new here, I tried quiet a few graphic/photo editing softwares with all their elements but I got hooked to a particular one: Photo impact 8 XL which came on a CD from a magazine I bought a few years ago.
I became hooked to this software because It allows me to do a lot of proffessional looking stuff which causes me to be mistaken for a Graphic Artist( I am in Finance). I was about to buy it but Photoimpact 10 was realeased and it cheaper than version 8 based on the CD that 8 came with- so I bought 10 ESD for about $64.00. Version 10 works fine for me
could not see any visual difference between version 10 and Eight . Yes Photoimpact 10 had a few itches- like slowing up my 256mb amd athlon 1.3 ghz processor but I worked around them with no sweat.

As for Version 11 whicch the newest and most controversial:
I was a bit worried as nobody had much good to say about Photo impact 11- it seems. I decided not to upgrade until a known patch has been released to correct the problems associated. Any ways I decided to gamble when the time was right, thats when the price was right. So I checked uleads website daily until I see where I get a 10% discount.
So I went and purchased the upgrade for $44.00.

Well I used my GPRS cell phone as a modem attached to my computer to dowload the 85mb software at a rate of 1.5k per sec on average.
I started 11:50pm and after been disconnected ever 30 miniuites the downlaoad finished 7:49 AM the following morning. That was a whole lot of time to be up (almost nine hours) waitinand watching to manually reconnect every 30 minuites. At 84.9mb of 85mb the connection dropped and started getting worked up so it took me 15 minuites to reconnect just to download the last 39 seconds of the software.

Was the download of photoimpact via GPRS and loosing so much sleep worth it?

For me YES, becuase it has been stable and error free since I have downloaded it 2 days ago. Not a Glitch. It opens within 29 seconds
and there are a few nice touches to it that I really appreciate the most apparent on is the blue eyed girl that comes up and smiles at you with her camera. The other new features really make my life easier.
This progam opens and closes real well, it does every thing real fast,
all me text letters are working and my PC is not the fastest around if you are using the statistics.
I am still testing this software rigorously though and will keep you posted .

Well based on my experience with version 10 which is the most bugged version to date- in my mind I can share a few work- arounds which should help those who are having gripes with photoimpact 11.
These tips fixed my problems with photoimpact 10.

[] If you can't run photo impact and you get the message photoimpact has entered a problem and needs to close - Uninstalling and reinstalling won't help- Just create a new user account and open photoimpact again ifyou are using XP.

[] If photo impact freezes or slows up your machine then you need to increase your paging file to about 4090mb as your virtual memory may be too low especially if you open several large size photos.
I don't have to do this with version 11 as it handles larger megapixel photos well- It is great.

[] If a letter is not working - just change the font and then change back to the origional font - a reboot may be required in some cases.

[] If you download the trial version of photo impact 11
and you are satisfied with its performance probably- I said probably- its best to use the buy option from the trial software to purchase.
Because I guess you will be using the the same software only that it will
be activated - Right?

As for me Photoimpact 11 is the Best out there- yes I am not a graphic artist - this is just a hobby - Ihave received no formal training in digital photography nor graphics but I amaze a lot of professional with my work
I never know I could design a website by myself as I don't know anything about scripts and applets nor java, but you should see my website designs. I must mention the image extraction tool in version 11. Its the best.

Can some tell me how to post pictures around here so I can show you some of my creations- thanks to photo impact. I guess thats why this forum exists and we are all here because we beleive photo impact is the best despite all the other expensive elements that are out there.

Thanks for your positive comments.

You said yourself that you hesitated to upgrade to PI 11 because you only read negative posts here. It is not the majority of users that post here but mainly people with problems. Rarely does someone, like you did, post a positive experience here.

I'm glad that PI 11 works for you and you are happy with it. Thanks again for sharing that with us.

If you want to post images here, you need to host these somewhere on the internet, maybe with your ISP or on your own web site. Once you have done that, you can post your image here by selecting the 'Img' button and inserting the url of your image after the img tag, close the tag and, voila, done.

Thanks for your response.
It seems as if you are OK with photo impact 11 too.

I've had no major problems with PI through version 11, except the "smart download", which seems silly on Ulead's part, since it implies the procedure is "smart" and will download only what you need and be able to pick up where left off if interrupted.

I guess I have to add their support is poor, since I have sent to technical support questions where I stated I had done the obvious, like uninstall-install/re-install and they still sent back a "uninstall-instal/re-install response. It's like they click on a canned response no matter what the problem is.

But other than that, I have been pleased with the software, especially considering the cost of what most of my friends use (Photshop.)

Let me add my voice to those who are satisfied with PI 11. I have been using mine so a month or so and have had no problems.
