DVD+R DL 8.5GB only has 579MB Available to burn???

Post by Phlosso4 »

I'm using the trial version of workshop 2 to determine whether or not it can do what I need it to. I need to burn 30GB of .wmv files currently stored on my hard drive to 4 8.5GB Verbatim DVD+R DLs. The videos were captured from VHS using Windows Movie Maker and are training videos my company uses to educate our employees in coal mining safety. I need to transfer them to DVD for ease of distribution among our offices and to eliminate the clutter of our 100+ VHS cassettes. When going to burn the first DVD+R DL (to see if the program can do it before purchasing another program that cannot) I changed the disc template manager to long play, NTSC, and inserted my DVD+R DL into my burner. The Required/Available Disc Space then reads 8.1GB/579.0MB. I find this most disturbing! Now no matter what I do my DVD DLs always show up as having only 579MB of space on them, however before when I test burned 30 minutes of the same video they were listed at 8.5GB! Please help me!!! I have deadlines that pass me by as I type and am growing weary and desperate!

Have you downloaded all the extras for WS2, essential for DL burning?

Can you download extras with the trial, or would I have to purchase the program? I don't mind purchasing the program, hey, it's company money, but I want to be sure that it will work. I didn't read in any of the posts about trial version limitations that it wouldn't burn DLs.

One more thing...

Also I wonder if a standard Verbatim DVD+R DL burned through this program would play in your run of the mill cheap Wal-mart DVD player? It wouldn't make much sense to buy a $400 program to burn DVDs for our trainers to use on the road if they can't use them on the road. Thanks for your help, I really appreciate it!!!

I'm not sure if you need DVD Workshop, I think you could get by with Video Studio 9.

VS9 is easier to use and also has Duel Layer capability.

I don't think the stand alone DVD players support Microsofts WMV format, even though VS9 can use WMV files. As far as I know DVD players, the newer breed support MPEG1, 2 DIVX and MPEG4. I haven't seen one that will play WMV.
