The MediaStudio Pro 8 Smart Compositor is an all new tool that lets you quickly create professional-quality opening sequences or segues with pre-made masks, frames and moving paths. Even if MediaStudio Pro is not your primary NLE, Smart Compositor can come to the rescue. Compose your sequence, then simple render it out as avi or whatever format you need, and export to your main NLE.
MSPro8's Smart Compositor comes with 22 ready-to-use theme templates already installed.
The Smart Compositor Designer plug-in makes creating new templates easy. Create your own sequence components such as masks and frames, then combine them as a composited sequence on the Video Editor timeline. Or use existing templates as a base for further modification. Output templates directly from the Video Editor. Template generation is automatic and includes an optional installer to mount the new template in the Smart Compositor library.
The Smart Compositor Designer is available at no cost to all users of MediaStudio Pro 8. Available in English, the Smart Compositor Designer is compatible with all MediaStudio Pro 8 language versions.
Features
*Seamless integration with the MediaStudio Pro 8 Video Editor
*Output as template file sets or wrapped with an installer to mount new templates in the Smart Compositor library
*Choose any frame for the template reference thumbnail
*Choose the Smart Compositor Library into which new templates install

I had the same problem too when trying to remove just the plug in. Can't find it. Doh!Dave DeLancey wrote:Terry - this plugin completely crashed msp8 for me - had to completely reinstall - tried to add/remove the smart composter from control panel and said it couldn't find it - pretty crappy - Win2K all updates

Same thing for me (Win XP Home SP2). Should have checked here before installing.just installed smart composer designer. Restarted computer. went to start MSP8
all I get is a small box : u32cfg ulead.dat with a red X button and ok botton. I click ok, and nothing happens.
There is at least one report on the MUG-SW forum of the same problem.
Has anybody had success with installation of Smart Compositor Designer (since it was released... I'm sure it will have worked for the beta testers and presume that something has gone awry in the final packaging for general release...)?
I have reported the problem to the Ulead tech support team but I guess it will be a few days before I hear from them!

I've downloaded it and it installed OK.
I am using the ESD Download version of MSP8 that requires serial number entry not the internet activation version.
The new function is then located from the toolbar at the top of the screen
Project, Design Tool.
It requires that there be at least one video and one audio track for it to function.

Just drag them to the timeline.
Haven't played with it yet but the impression I got was you create whatever you want on the timline in the usual way with overlays, filters, multi tracks etc, then run this designer to convert it into a Smart Composition.
It gives two options
1. Save as an exe file
2. Save to a folder
You give it a name and a category type which can be one of the existing categories or create your own.

Ummm...tyamada wrote:To uninstall Smart Composer run the installation again, you will be asked if you want to remove program or not.
So that 'appeared' to work, but result on attempting to run MSP8 is unchanged: the little dialog box with 'ulead'dat' in it and nothing else.
So now I have:
* no working MSP8
* no hotfix installed
* no Smart Compositor Designer.
Will keep an eye on the board and wait for a reply from Ulead.
To be honest, I'm expecting that lowest common denominator of solutions: reinstall.
Richard.
