Inserting a logo ?

Post by Nounours18200 »

Is it possible to add a logo to a video ? I have not seen this feature in UVS9 ?

Thanks for your reply,

Do it as an overlay extending for the entire length of your clip? This might cause complications, though, as there is only one overlay track, so you won't be able to use other overlays. A work-around would be to add the logo overlay and then render that clip -- preferably in DV/AVI format to retain the original quality if it was captured as DV/AVI, then do further editing as necessary, before rendering your final output.

Actually it is very easy to add one on the overlay track. I am not sure of any other way, but I have successfully added mine there several times.

Another workaround to the one overlay track issue would be to incorporate the logo in all of the overlays (if there are mutiple overlays), that way you would prevent rendering the main video twice...

Yet another solution is my power cheat to get a third track quickly. Here it is:

Create your video with the overlays that you want. Save your Project, then create a New Project. Go to File->Insert Media File to Timeline->Insert Video. Under Files of Type select Ulead VideoStudio Project Files (*.vsp) and then select the Project you just saved. Now you can add your logo to the Overlay Track.

Also, I have found that (for me) the best way to get an Object into the timeline cleanly is to create a .TGA file with a alpha channel in a photo-editing program such as Photoshop CS2.

Enjoy!

I'm not sure that I have ever worked with a .TGA file, but I will try it. I have always had pretty successful results with .PNG, but I am always looking to improve my process... I wonder if I can create a .TGA with Fireworks...

Thanks very much guys: useful info, Ken & rgutrie !.

As I have never used overlays before, I have at least 2 questions (sorry if it is simple for you, but...):

1-/. how to create a logo that can be imported in the Overlay time line: because it should be a video format (.mpg, .avi), whereas my logo will be a "small image" : .jpg, or bmp, or psd ... made under photoshop ? the logo will be an image format, not a video format.

2-/how to define the position that the logo should have on the screen ? if I want the logo to be in the bottom right corner for example, how to proceed ??

Thank you very much for your help on this subject that I have never addressed before....

You can put an image on the overlay track, that is not a problem. You will see when you add it that it will come up in a box that you can move your image around. It is very easy to work with once you are there.

Nounours -- and once you have the image in the overlay track, and positioned where you want it on screen, it is easy to have it stay there for however long you want, even if it is just a still image. Select the image in timeline mode, and then either, in the overlay track, simply drag the yellow bar that will appear at the far right hand end of the image in the timeline, and drag it to the end of the main video in the title track of the timeline. That way it will stay there for the whole video. Or else, see exactly how long the main video is, then select the image in the overlay track, and set the little clock up in the top left hand corner of the Edit screen to exactly the same length of time.

Ken,

There is still a problem: I can import the image in the overlay track (no pb at all), but it is absolutely impossible to move it on the screen !??

I see the logo, but it is positionned on the center of the screen and there is no way to move it ? maybe there is specific parameter to change to allow moving ??

I should probably do something wrong but what ?!?

Thanks for your help

Sorry -- just to make sure I wasn't dreaming all this, I have just opened any old video clip in VS9, then, to be a bit more realistic, imported my own family crest into the overlay track. It is a jpg file, 216 kb, and not optimised as an alpha-channel overlay with transparent background, but the principle is still the same for whatever image you import into the overlay track. (Edit: In fact, this image has a pure white background, and I have just used the Chroma key function to make the crest appear solid but the background transparent. Works very well!)

Yes, the image appears in the very centre of the screen with the title track video behind it. But it should appear surrounded by dotted lines and with yellow boxes at each corner and in the middle of each side. These are for re-sizing the image. When I hover my mouse over the image, a cross-bar icon (black, four pointed arrow) appears, and when I left-click, this 'grabs' the image, and I can move it anywhere on screen. Does yours not do that?

If you _can_ get it to work, make sure you keep the image within the square rectangle that appears out towards the edge of screen, as what is inside is the 'safe area' which will always show on the TV screen. Anything outside the rectangle could be lost or partially cut-off.

Bonne chance!!

Ken : I have imported the image and the pb is that it does NOT have the yellow square allowing repositioning !

So I cannot moved it to the position I want, and it stays sticked in the center !...

But I am sure you are right, because a few days ago, I did the same manipulation, and I saw the yellow boxes you talk about ! so something should be wrong, but I do not see what ??!!

Any idea ?
