Dolby Audio Issue

Post by bevgary »

I have extracted from two DVD's a couple of files, one from a TV recording from my DVD recorder and one from a commercial DVD.

Both files will play in Media Player and in Nero Showtime perfectly, but NO AUDIO in VS 9! Nero Visionexpress will also play sound (for what it is worth).

Both files have Dolby Digital Audio sound files. All other regular files are fine when you play audio.

I also have this VS9 running on my laptop PC it does exactly the same.
Now I am pretty sure that this worked before and I am wondering whether at later plug in or service pack has caused the problem.

I noticed a couple of hints of this problem in other forum messages. Before I reload can someone out their try and extract a file from a DVD and see if they have the same issue. So much for AC-3 support!

The only other thing I can think off it must be in contention with something else on the PC (although unlikely)

Can we assume you are using the full, and not the trial, version of VS9? The trial version does not support AC-3. And certainly extraction of parts of another DVD, including AC-3 audio, works. Just a day or so ago, I extracted a segment of a DVD with Dolby using VS9, and then also used VS9 on this clip to extract the background music theme I was after...

No it is not a trial version. But it is an upgrade version. I think I started at version 6! then 7 then 8 .....
I will have to try and load from scratch to see if it makes a difference. thanks for your help.

I think I can load it up direct from the upgrade disk without loading previous versions.

Regards

Yes you can -- though you will probably need an original disc from version 6 if this is what you first acquired. Otherwise, the installation process for the upgrade version of VS9 will look for an earlier version already installed. But again, if you don't have a disc, VS6 is all you need load, and later can uninstall safely as there are no shared files. (It appears there are some shared files between VS9 and 8, however, so this is why I would recommend using VS6 or 7.)

Version 6 to 9 worked a treat. I think that Showshifter may have done something to cause the problem. I have it running on both PC's.

Thanks for checking out the problem!
