Sound edits on separate clips lost when joined

Post by garybog »

I'm using a fully patched MF4. I have a particular clip (my daughter's birth) I'd like to mute portions of the audio (mom's screams, too scary for kids). Enhance Video will mute the entire clip but then I lose "It's a girl...", etc. If I import separate clips, mute some with Enhance Video, the individual adjustments are lost when I join the clips. I suspect I'm looking for something more sophisticated than MF4 that allows separate editing of the audio & video but does anyone have any suggestions within MF4?

Try this:

Join your clips, then export the clip ("Export Selected Clips <Ctrl-K>") using the "Fast Export DVD Compliant video" to save the merged clip to the hard drive. Then start a new project and import this merged file. Now you can do the audio edits intact ?

An alternate method for better speed might be to edit audio on the specific clip(s) and then export the specific clip(s) that you edited the audio on. Then delete these clips from your project, and re-import the clips you exported in the previous step. The audio should already be correct so you shouldn't need any additional audio processing and you can then join all the clips without fear of losing your audio edits.

Would that work?

Thanks...that'll do it. Any suggestions on an inexpensive program to do the editing on the soundtrack without separating the clips?

No I dont.
But if you find one, post it here. I'm interested myself!
