Difference between video editing-software

Post by Biggo »

I´m planning on purchasing software for Video-editing, and Ulead´s software seems interesting.

But can anyone tell me what the difference between the different programs?

VideoStudio
Mediastudio PRO
DVD Movie Factory
DVD Workshop

Its quite confusing, and hard to figure out what to use. I reckon it´s not necessary buying all of them :)

Any suggestions to what program I should use? I am not a pro, just want to create private home videos (vacations etc.)

It is really hard to say, because it really depends on the extra features that you want. I have found that for general use you can get away with just one, and I have found that VideoStudio can do everything. It is when you start wanting to get more creative that you need the other programs. Ulead's website actually has decent product descriptions, with some comparisons as well.

For $100, I have found that VideoStudio is well worth the investment and has given me the ability to create some "family impressing" DVDs.

MediaStudioPro is what I use. Started out with VideoStudio but found it wanting in features. MediaStudioPro comes bundled with DVD authoring (MovieFactory) and suffices for the creation of DVD's.

If you don't intend to go too fancy, VS should do and the DVD version (Full version) also has all that's needed.

If you don't want to do any editing, just capturing from your camcorder and converting to DVD/VCD/SVCD, MovieFactory would be enough.

Thanks for replies.

Seems like Video Studio is the right thing for me.

Can any or all of those products read a .vob file from the harddisk.
ie I copied from a DVD disk to the C drive and lost the DVD

I have looked at the input formats declared on the product packaging
of videostudio and it does not mention .vob

Yes Ulead VideoStudio will import .vob files direct from a DVD into the timeline for editing - - - - Provided the DVD is not copyright protected in any way.
