I just did a total refresh of my computer, re-install windows XP Home, and wipe the hard drive, all about a week ago, I've installed UVS9 (upgraded from VS7 SE DVD) And I've installed the patch released early August. Now my problem:
After about 5 or less minutes of editing, the program will freeze but this only occurs while scrubbing through the timeline quickly. My system specs are listed in my profile completed to the best of my knowledge, only thing I dont know is the motherboard, but it is a Dell if that helps with that category. My Video properties are
AVI
NTSC 29.97fps
DV Type 1
4:3 720 X 480
Captured via Firewire directly into Ulead, not imported from another capture source.
Hope I provided all required info to get some detailed responses
Any advice to get it to stop crashing literally after only 5 minutes, sometimes as little as 2 minutes is very much appreciated.
VS9 Freezes during Timeline Scrubbing

Hi gordon_fan_24,
I presume you have disabled any screensaver, antivirus and firewall programs, and updated all your drivers. (maybe it's time for you to use a disk image program!) Also make sure you are using an "always on" power setting. You don't want the pc to try shutting the hard drive down after 5 minutes.
Check the "Application" log of "Event Viewer" - this can often point to the source of the problem. Look for red circles with a white "x" in them, as well as yellow warning triangles with a "!".
When you run VS, also run Task Manager, and look at what and how many processes are running. If you click on the "Performance" tab, you'll be able to keep an eye on available RAM - there might be a memory "leak".
Good luck!

My Power setting is already set to "Always on" but even if it weren't would it still shut the hard drive down after 5 mins if I was using the computer during those 5 minutes?
Also, what do you mean by disk image program, I'm not trying to burn anything I'm just editing when this problem occurs. I used to know how to view the event viewer, but cannot seem to remember how to do that, can someone please refresh me on the process.
Thanks

No it wouldn't close down the HDD if you were using it.
Re the disk image, I think he was merely suggesting that with your system only being so recently rebuilt, and with so little on it, it would be an ideal time to make a disk image of your entire system, and use that to restore those ideal settings should the computer crash in future and you need to rebuild it again.
Re finding the event viewer, it is usually in a somewhat hidden folder named 'Administrative Tools' which may appear in your XP main menu under Accessories (although I have made mine a separate menu item) or else the folder can be found in Control Panel.

It's good that you are using the always on setting. If you had a power saving mode activated, it would not shut down your hard drive if it was in use, but it would be one more service running in the background, and when it checked for disk activity after 5 minutes (or whatever time was set) that might just be the "final straw" for the system. Probably an unlikley scenario, but it's worth trying to eliminate all possibilities.gordon_fan_24 wrote:My Power setting is already set to "Always on" but even if it weren't would it still shut the hard drive down after 5 mins if I was using the computer during those 5 minutes?
Ken's already answered this one, and I should not have included it as a sort of throwaway remark since it's only served to confuse the issue. If you are interested in being able to restore your system from many sorts of catastrophic failure in about 5 to 10 minutes, however, you might consider using a disk image program such as Norton Ghost - not to be confused with disk burning programs. Using such a program normally requires you to separate your operating system and program files from your data, so it requires a fair understanding of disk partitioning. I am a firm believer in the benefits of separate OS and data partitions and disk image backups, but it's not for everyone. Many people would choose to use Windows' own System Restore, but I find that to be a great resource hog. That might be tolerable if you have more hard drive space and cpu speed than you know what to do with, but I like to squeeze the most out of my own system. Also, what do you mean by disk image program, I'm not trying to burn anything I'm just editing when this problem occurs.
Sorry, I didn't want to patronise you by going thru the step by step way of getting there, so here's a refresher:I used to know how to view the event viewer, but cannot seem to remember how to do that, can someone please refresh me on the process.
Right click on "My Computer" and click on "Manage". This will open up the very useful "Computer Management" window. You'll see "Event Viewer" as a sub folder of "System Tools", and if you expand the Event Viewer folder, you'll see the "Application" sub folder at the top of the list.
Good luck!

VideoStudio 9 lock up with AVI files
I have a similar problem. It only occurs with AVI files, works ok if I bring in MPEG files. When editing the timeline, VideoStudio 9 hangs.
I went back to VideoStudio8 and don't have the problem. I tried AVI files captured in Videostudio8 and they lock up in Videostudio 9 as well.
I tried the patch that mentioned fixes problem with AVI files, but that does not help
I did check the event viewer as suggested by someone esle, and I do see application hung errors for vstudio.exe, but not sure what all the info tells me. Any ideas?
BTW - whenever I call ULEAD tech support, I get disconnected when it tells me to press an entry to talk to someone.
I sent emails, and all I ever get is their automated response. I am very frustrated with ULEAD right now
