Scanner/ Printer Connection Issue

Post by Clive »

Hi

Sorry if I have not posted this in the correct section but can anyone out there help me please, I’ve been using Corel Paintshop Pro Ultimate 2021 with Windows 10, but recently my computer developed a fault and I’ve had it rebuilt with new motherboard and new hard drive.

It now has Windows 11 installed and the problem I’m having is if I open PS Pro via a shortcut on my desktop the program opens, but if I then proceed to click the following: File, Import, From scanner or camera, the usual message saying establishing connection comes on the screen but very briefly and then the PS Pro program closes and I’m back on the desktop.

Is there something which needs configuring in order to make PS Pro connect with my scanner/printer as it worked with Windows 10 with no problems :?

I've moved your post to the PaintShop Pro forum as it is likely to be seen -- and answered -- by more people there.

My own initial question would be whether Windows 11 can "see" your scanner/printer. (I assume here you are using a multifunction printer which can also scan. If so what is the brand and model.) Is there a Windows 11-specific driver for it or have you reinstalled the driver which worked with Windows 10?

And since you are using PSP 2021, can we assume you have installed both the 32 and 64 bit versions of PSP for that version as recommended? Using the 32 bit version, when you go to Import, have you looked at TWAIN Source or TWAIN Acquire instead of going to the WIA option From Scanner or Camera? Does TWAIN Source identify your printer/scanner?

Hello Ken
Thank you for your reply and moving my question to the right section of the forum.

Yes, I am using a multifunctional printer, namely an HP Officejet Pro 8730 and yes
Windows 11 can see the printer because I can print a word document, I can also open a photo in PS Pro tell it to print it and it does, no problem.

I also have both the 32 and 64 bit installed and get the same problem with both ie I ask
PS Pro to scan and I get sent back to the desktop.

I can put a document on the scanner press the copy button on the machine and it will scan and print it so the scanner does work, its just trying to get PS Pro to see the scanner.

If I click Twain Acquire, I get a message saying No scanner found, if I click “From Scanner or Camera”, I get the message establishing connection followed by the screen asking What do you want to scan which remains on the screen extremely briefly before the whole programme closes and returns me to the desktop

I can't really think what might be wrong. Does the HP come with its own editing software i.e. which can scan and then edit the image? Or have you installed Microsoft's Windows Scan from the MS Store? HP itself has its own scanning and editing software, also available in the Windows Store, called HP Smart. I am of course only thinking of workarounds to at least provide a scanned image which you could then open in PSP for editing...

When you click on TWAIN Source/Acquire, can we assume that was in the 32 bit version of PSP 2021?
