Will/Does Corel offer replacement for Animation Shop?

Post by Winxinc »

Sorry if this has been covered before.. I did a quick search and didn't see this exact question.

I own, and use quite frequently, what I believe is the last installment of Animation Shop (version 3.10). It's starting to get glitchy on my Windows 7 Pro system (haven't tried it on hubby's Win10 yet). I did see the posts about ULead Gif animator, but also read that it's no longer available for purchase.

Will Corel EVER offer any type of replacement software for Animation Shop? I would prefer a stand alone program that's compact and simple to use like Animation Shop.

Thanks in advance!

Not that I've heard of, no. Corel seems to have no interest in GIF animation products. Animation Shop was a JASC product. GA 5 was a Ulead product. Corel doesn't appear to have much interest in most of the apps produced by the companies they bought up, other than Ulead's Video Studio.

It never hurts to try reinstalling the software if it's glitchy. I've not bothered installing it on my Win 7 box, just Ulead GIF Animator. It runs just fine, better than on my old XP machine. You could also check out the downloads page on my website.

It's pretty disappointing that Corel has dropped these products. I've been using PSP since version 5-6, way back in the late 90's. It's my "go-to" graphics program over all the others I've ever used. :/

Thank you so much for the reply and info about your website, and for offering the hard to find files! I'm there now! :)

Yes, too many good products have disappeared due to takeovers. It seems to be the norm these days.

You're welcome for the reply and info! ;)

Ugh, need to trim my nails... just realized my first reply states "version 5-6". It SHOULD read "version 5 & 6", lol!

Again, thanks so much!

I'm still using Animation Shop with PSP2020 on Windows 10. It works fine. **knock on wood**

I've looked at some other animation apps, but none work as seamlessly with PSP. It was - and still is - a great product.

Regrettably, Animation Shop's mandatory optimization settings result in excessively grainy and low-quality GIFs by today's standards, rendering it largely impractical except for generating smaller animations such as smiley's.

Personally, I've turned to Wondershare Filmora for crafting GIFs, but it would be great to see GIF format support integrated into Video Studio, with the option to export from PSP.

Nevertheless, is it worthwhile to continue down the GIF route when there are significantly superior formats like WebP for animations?
