VideoStudio 2018 not saving videos currently.
I created a project one day and saved a video and it came out fine. The next day wanted to create another video from same project but the progress bar always stopped around 16% before disappearing. The temp save files also disappeared out of save folder. No error messages. Just stops. And yet my computer keeps having less storage with each attempt. Anyone know what could be happening?

Welcome to the forums
I would think there is a conflict on the timeline at 16% causing the render to fail.
You may ask why it did not fail the first time, no idea.....
Check the content of the timelines at 16%, have you applied any filters, speed settings etc.
Some renders create temp files one for video and one for audio, these appear to be deleted when the render fails or indeed completes, files may be sent to the recycle bin which adds to the hard drive usage till we purge the bin, just a thought....

How do I pinpoint 16% on the timeline? Video is about 1 hour and 40 minutes. Like literally around 16 minute mark? What counts as a conflict? The project itself plays fine.

Yes.Skyblue wrote: Like literally around 16 minute mark?
The issue could be related one of following:Skyblue wrote:What counts as a conflict?
- a filter
- problematic clip
- an effect, e.g. changing the clip speed
A project can play fine in the edit mode, but terminate with or without a message whilst rendering. As there is no VS error log, it can be a challenge to find the issue at play.Skyblue wrote: The project itself plays fine.

As for storage disappearing. Where can I find the incompleted files so I can delete them? I want my 200GB back before I experiment further.

Re: VideoStudio 2018 not saving videos currently.
Most likely they would be in the Working Folder. Look in the VS Preferences first tab near the top for the location. The default would normally be C:\Users\[YourName]\Documents\Corel VideoStudio Pro\20.0\ unless you set up a folder elsewhere on your computer. Also be aware that when you open the burning module, in the first of the icons in the bottom left of screen, you will also find an indication of the Working Folder where again you might have set up a separate folder. But if not, then the default will be the same as the above.

Thanks. What is "burning module?"

When you finish editing and click on the Share tab, and then go down to select, say, DVD, then another element of VS opens and that is the burning module. It will produce -- or burn in video parlance -- your project to disc. It will also produce a DVD image or DVD folder if you don't want to actually burn a disc.

Re: VideoStudio 2018 not saving videos currently.
I did find that path but it ended in 21.0 and has two folders inside of it, "VoiceOver" is empty and "DMF_TEMP has 5 folders inside of it. What exactly should I be manually deleting that VS doesn't need to function normally?Ken Berry wrote: ↑Fri Sep 15, 2023 10:12 am Most likely they would be in the Working Folder. Re: VideoStudio 2018 not saving videos currently.
Over the years the program names have changed from CVSX10 to a date format CVS2018
The folders used by the program have continued to use 20.0, 21.0 etc
X10 using the roman numeral X=10 + 10 gave us 20.0.
Now using the year format in a way confuses things.
So 2018 uses 21.0
The Voice Over folder is created by the program and would be populated when we use Voice Over on the timelines.
The DMF_TEMP folders are used by the authoring stage, the burner module can convert our project (Convert Title) to a video file suitable to burn to disc.
DMF_TEMP is the temp location for those files.
Subsequent usage of the burner module will overwrite these files.
A DVD holds 4.3 Gb of data, the DMF_TEMP would be this size ish
Yes you can purge these files as they may be created again when you burn the next DVD disc

At nearly the 16 minute mark (which is roughly 16%) it goes from 30fps dashcam video into a video from my android phone that is 30.021fps. Anyway to remedy that clip so it saves with the rest of the project as it seemed to do the first time?

To maintain consistency, you can try converting the Android phone video to a standard 30fps before including it in your project. Video editing software like Adobe Premiere Pro can help with this task.

Re: VideoStudio 2018 not saving videos currently.
Hi Skyblue
We would recommend using a video converter to convert the phone video to use a 29.97 frame rate, then replace the video on the main project timelines. (Handbrake has been recommended in the past, maybe Ken would have ideas)
You could try using Video Studio to do render the phone video.
It may be the change from 30 fps to 30.12 that VS does not like.
Start a new project, insert the Phone video to the timeline and render to Mp4, using the same settings as your original render.
As the initial render completed ok, what settings did you use to render that project?
Do you still have that video on your pc?
Using Settings – Movie Profile Manager
Format Mpeg4
Add option, Browse your pc for the phone video file.
Give the new template a meaningful name.
Then Close the panel
From Share – Mpeg4 your new profile will be at the top of the list
You can try using this profile to convert the full project, maybe it will get past the 16% mark?

Re: VideoStudio 2018 not saving videos currently.
I never changed the play rate of my cell phone videos. I just inserted them into the project, and the first time it output an mp4 of project file. I don't recall changing anything in the project since. One cell video is 30.02fps and another is 29.69fps.lata wrote: ↑Thu Sep 21, 2023 10:33 am Hi Skyblue

Both exported videos from project were 30.06fps for some reason. I didn't mess with frame rate options.
Render options were always 30fps but I will try to export a 29.97fps now.

Re: VideoStudio 2018 not saving videos currently.
Both your files are variable frame rates, these are created by the phone during recordings
Inserting these to a new project may show the messages to match the video properties, we generally recommend doing this.
From Share - there is an option top left for Same as Project Settings this should render the project to the same settings as your video clip.
If you are using the video for computer or internet playback then this option should be ok.
If we choose one of the programs profiles Mpeg4 then 30 fps would be used as a constant rate, again ok for computer playback.
Typically --- MPEG-4 AVC (1920 x 1080, 30p, 15Mbps)
If you wish to try 29.97 first choose the profile above, then select the + symbol, this will add a user defined profile.
update the name, I use this format (MY MPEG-4 AVC (1920 x 1080, 29.97p, 15Mbps)
change the Frame Rate on the General tab to 29.97.
