VS 2022 Pro

Post by markpritch »

Hi guys
Very long time, no see.

I've just upgraded from Pro X9.5 to Pro 2022 and don't seem to have the old style blank coloured overlay tabs (for want of a better description).
These were blank video clips which I used to put at the beginning and end of a video on which to super-impose titles etc.
There doesn't appear to be an option for these on Pro 2022.
I can only see all kinds of themed intros, social media etc.

Is it possible to access those old overlays in plain colours?
If so, how do I access them?

Thanks for your help

Is this what you are looking for? A search in the Help system for "Adding color clips" finds this:

Adding color clips
Color clips are solid colored backgrounds. You can use the preset color clips or create new color clips in the Library. For example, you can insert a black color clip as background for end credits.
* To select a color clip in the Color Library
1 Select Media from the Library Panel and choose Backgrounds > Solid Colors from the Gallery list.
2 Choose the desired color as displayed in the Library and drag to the Video or Overlay Track.
If you don’t see a color you want, add another color. You can change the color after by double-clicking it in the Timeline and choosing a color from the Color Picker on the Edit tab.

Hi Canuck
Apologies for the late response. I've now managed to do that. Thank you for your help.

I have another couple of issues if you could help.
The other day I tried making an AVCHD video and a message came up saying 'Not Enough Memory' I couldn't understand this as the video would have been around 2.5gb and I have more than 1.5tb of disc room. I eventually did a re-boot and was able to continue, but can't understand where the issue of memory comes in.

The second problem I have had just today where I am trying to create a DVD-R from an MP4 video and have a pop-up saying 'Convert Step Got Some Problem', Any ideas?

Thanks again

That was a pretty common message back in the day when people made a lot of DVDs. It was a main reason why at the time we recommended a staged approach to making DVDs. In your case you are starting with an mp4, and I assume it is a high definition one i.e. with bitrate higher, even much higher, than 10,000 kbps. A DVD requires this to be downconverted to mpeg-2 and with a bitrate of around 8000 kbps or lower, depending on its length. Things could go wrong when combining this conversion step with a demanding multiplexing/burning step. So we recommended first producing such an mpeg-2 then, as a subsequent step, burning this mpeg-2 to DVD.

Now you can of course use VS to do the conversion as a separate step (with the mp4 in the timeline choose Share > MPEG-2 and in your case, just accept the Properties suggested in the very first of the mpeg-2 possibilities presented). To speed things up you could even use a separate video conversion program such as the freeware Handbrake set to produce a standard definition mpeg-2 with similar properties to those you see in the VS option. Then insert this new file in the VS timeline and go to Share > DVD. Hopefully this time you won't get the error message.

Hi Ken
Thanks for your comments, please accept my apologies for late return. I used to get an email notification when a reply came in to my queries on the forum but this seems to no longer be the case and what with our lovely queen passing away I'm afraid I've been rather side-tracked.

I note what you say but my first reaction is - why bother to use a high definition camera to then have to downgrade the result? I see that VS is able to create a BD and would not have thought an MP4 file would be any larger.
I don't know the bit rate of the DVD I tried to make (how do I find out?) but it was only 14 minutes long and 1.9gb in size. I am now only making a dozen or so DVDs a year as I'm tending to leave things in MP4 format and transferring to an external hard drive but occasionally other family members, who are elderly and don't have computers, want a copy and I find this pop-up most irritating.
I also made an M2T version of the video at 2.8gb and had the same response.

Any further comments would be most appreciated.
Kind regards
Mark

Hi Mark
Regarding post notifications our forum logs show e-mails being sent to you for the reply by Ken on the 9th September, you should check your in-box, spam or junk folder.
We have no reason to believe that the e-mail was not delivered.

As for your Dvd issues, can you provide more information regarding your original video files.
Please provide properties of your original video, right click the clip on the timeline or in the library, choose properties, what are they?
Can you also tell us the project settings you are using, Settings – project properties / settings.

These details should allow us to recommend settings in creating the mpeg2 used to burn the dvd disc.

Hi Trevor
First of all my sincere apologies for not having come back to you but again I did not get notice of a response and a few days later went on holiday. Since coming back I have not used VS until today.
No excuse but I just got wrapped up in more mundane domestic issues and had not thought about my previous enquiry.

I have checked my BT account in Junk, Spam and the Inbox but there is nothing. Just in case of error my email address is (removed by admin) it is just possible that Ken has a note of a very old email at Onetel.com which I no longer use.

It's difficult to recall now but I believe I completed the DVDs on another system although I didn't get the quality I wanted. Perhaps you will allow me to revert on this issue once I have finished some more work which I started today for which will not need to make a DVD.

I am currently having trouble loading videos clips to VS22 into the Video Line on the Edit page. I first tried to load a whole group of MOV files in one go and the system crashed, ie it closed down and disappeared from my screen. There were 11 very short clips, amounting to around 15 minutes, I was wanting to join them and then add some photos, so I converted them to MP4s and tried again.
Once more the system shut down.
I then found I was able to load the MP4s one at a time until they were all there but once I started to edit them the system shut down again.
I have tried a PC restart but that hasn't helped.

I read your response re uninstalling and reinstalling after deleting the 25 folder but I'm nervous of doing this as there seems to be a lot contained in the folder and I would not want to lose anything of importance.

I have just re-read the email I received from Cleverbridge on 14th August where it says the Registration Key they have given me is only for the download included within that email and that this is only valid for 60 days. So I am also nervous that I will lose VS22 completely.
I have also read that I should uninstall using Programmes and Features. Would this be adequate or is the clean-up tool more thorough?

I hope you can you put my mind at ease and thank you for your help.
I promise to seek out a response tomorrow, email, or not.

Many thanks
Mark

To clear a few of your concerns.
The 25.0 folder is used to reset the program, It will contain the library details.
After re-naming the folder a new folder will be created when launching the program.
If re-naming the folder does not help In improving things we can simply revert to the original folder, effectively undoing the reset.

Cleverbridge
Are referring to their download link only being active for 60 days not your programs serial number.
You need to look after the installation file (web Installer) which is used to download and install video studio, although Corel / Alludo make the file available from their web site here.....
https://www.videostudiopro.com/en/pages/download/
Your serial number should be kept safe, but should be available from your Corel account.
We can download the latest version of our program at any time, to do that we have to uninstall the program, choose an empty download location folder.

Cleanup tool
I would advise first using Program and Features, then the cleanup tool as posted here.....

Hi Trevor
Firstly thank you for the heads-up re my account profile. It has been so long since I first did it that I had completely forgotten about it.
My apologies also to Ken for not advising the change of email address.
I've made several info adjustments but I'm not very tech savvy so hope they will suffice.

I checked in my help menu and I do have version vs 25.1.0.472
I then changed the name of folder 25 to 64
When I tried to start-up the programme it took quite a while to load, I had the smaller intro picture on my screen for at least a minute.
I then attempted to load the MP4s once more but the programme crashed again.

I then re-checked the folder and found that my folder 64 was still there but another folder 25 had appeared above it.
Within the folder VS Pro (X64) I have another folder, 19, which has a 'date modified' as 30/10/2018. This must be in relation to a previous version of VS. When I open it there is a sub-folder en-US
and inside that there is a whole list of things, a lot of which have a 2018 date but several have a 14/08/22 date, which is when I first downloaded VS22.
Could this be having an impact? Everything had seemed ok until yesterday.

If I download a new version how will it be possible for me to avoid installing folder 25?
Will my problem be resolved if I pay the £17.99 and upgrade to Ultimate?

Thanks for your patience, and for removing my email address.

Hi Mark
A lot going on here.....
I see from your profile that you have updated your e-mail address, as such you should have received a post notification for this reply.
The reset folder named 19.0 is indeed an earlier version Video Studio X9, you can delete that folder.
(X9 --X is roman numeral for 10+9=19)
If you are happy with the library content then you should be able to delete the 64 folder, I usually rename folders to “25.0-old”

If you have not already done so can you re-install 2022, first download the program files again.

The 25.0 will be created when first running the program, if that folder already exists then that will be used.

Video Studio 2022, as mentioned continue to run version 25.1.0.472, ignoring any updates.

VS Pro....., I doubt upgrading to the Ultimate will affect the use of your video files.
If you wish to upgrade I would install VS 9, I assume you own that version, you should then get an offer for 2022 for £23.0, this I believe includes WinZip, and a couple or template pack, just whether you feel the extra £’s are worth it.

Ok
Your original video files I believe are mov types.
Can you give more details, import one of the videos to the library or timeline right click the clip for properties, what are they?

Mov files use the Quicktime codec, Do you have Quicktime installed, view your start / programs list.
If no you may be best to install Quicktime

If you do need to install Quicktime, then you need to be aware that Apple, which developed Quicktime, some years ago announced they were discontinuing support for QT on PCs. This was because there was apparently some problem with the QT player rather than with the QT codec itself. Don't worry -- there is no danger with the codec. You'll find it at https://support.apple.com/kb/dl837?locale=en_US Ignore the warning about Apple no longer supporting QT for Windows, and download Quicktime 7.7.9 for Windows by pressing the Download button at the top. Once downloaded, start the installation process. But in the dialogue box which appears make sure only QuickTime Essentials is active and all the other options below it have an X. Then install just the Essentials, which will give you just the codec.

Hi Ken, Trevor
Many thanks for all your help over the last few days.

I thought I should let you know that I have played around with VS22 and even tried a 'repair' before uninstalling via programmes and features.

I have now reinstalled and it looks to be working ok, I've added a series of MOV files in one go and also a series of photos without the system crashing.
I have the same version as before - 25.1.0.472 but during the install I was not given the option of installing the 25 folder (in order not to) but see that it has been installed along with the rest of the programme.

Currently this does not appear to be causing a problem but time will tell.

I'm keeping everything crossed!!

Regards
Mark
