Jerky motion of title text after rendering

Post by Antois »

Hello there.
I made a long title (text/40 seconds)) in Video Studio 2021 using the template Modern Credits scroll. In the project file (.vsp) it has a fluid motion however after rendering the scrolling text is not smooth anymore but uneven (jerky, I don't know the right word in English). I combine the text with a colour as a background (in the layer track).

I experienced this more often but not always. It's a bit annoying because the video's are published at Youtube.
Maybe somebody knows a solution for this. The rendered file is MP4/5000 kbps/25 fps.

Suggest that you post your VSP so those interested can see the issue firsthand.

The vsp is allright. The rendered result a mp4 is stuttering. Can I upload a mp4 in this forum?

The mp4 is really of no use to us, only to confirms its poor quality, and we do believe you.
But yes if you wish you can provide the video, you will have to upload to a sharing site as it may/ will be oversized for the forum.

Your best option is to attach your vsp to your post, to do that you will have to zip the file.
The guys here can then try rendering the vsp containing the text / title seeing the results for themselves.

You mention the properties of the mp4 but no details of the project.
If the project is using 29.97fps and then rendered to 25 fps quality may suffer.

I do not recognise the template “Modern Credits” although I am not on my pc to check that.
Was Modern Credits installed with vs 2021 or a separate template package.
Post updated, ok I found Modern Credits

I attached the zipped Title file, however I'd rather show you the rendered result which is not possible because a mp4 is not allowed as an extension for an attachment.

I am curious about your findings.

I rendered the vsp file with this profile:

MPEG-4
24 bits, 1920 x 1080, 25 fps
Frame-gebaseerd
H.264 Top Kwaliteit Video: 5000 Kbps
44100 Hz, 16 bit, Stereo
MPEG AAC Audio: 192 Kbps

I rendered your VSP with the settings of MPEG-4 AVC (1920x1080, 24bits, 25fps, 15Mbps) and posted it at https://youtu.be/vIbu75QhR1M

I don't see a major issue but then I'm rendering at 15Mbps not 5Mbps. If I render at 5Mbps, then as expected, it's more jerky. You can also reduce jerkiness by rendering at 30fps vs. 25fps (https://youtu.be/DaMnscIYaHk) or by extending the length of time that the credits scroll.

You could post to YouTube or a file sharing site, e.g. Dropbox.

Turn OFF the Smart Render, turn OFF all Hardware Accelleration then see if it helps.

Thanks for the project sample.
Your Project appears to be set to AVI as below, I did not really understand why.

Microsoft AVI files
24 bits, 853 x 480, 29.97 fps
Frame-based
Uncompressed
PCM, 44.100 kHz, 16 Bit, Stereo

You are then rendering to 1920 x 1080 at 25 fps, video studio is going to struggle with that conversion.

Try setting the project properties ( Alt + Enter) to Online -- MPEG-4 (1920 x 1080, 25p, 8Mbps)

Then use “Share Same as project settings” tick the box top left of share panel.

I also removed the extra lines, to then spread the lines using the line spacing option set to 140
Not sure if this made any difference.
The resultant video at 33MB

I have attached my VSP for you to view.

Thank you guys for all the new information! Your uploads of the the differently treated text file looks smooth, excactly as I wanted it.

The text file is a part of a number of videoclips which together form a dance video. The composing clips differ in frame rate and video bitrate and before rendering I use the highest bitrate of all clips and the lowest framerate of them to define the properties for a rendering profile.

I choose for the lowest framerate which I encounter in the clips because I guess it is easier for the program to make less frames of a video than to make more frames. So if the clips are 30, 25 and 24 fps I choose 23,976 fps for the rendering of the full video and I choose 5Mbps because I think 15 Mbps is a bit too high for an upload to Youtube.

I also noticed the AVI 853x480 29.97 settings in the right upper corner but I didn't understand why it was there, and what its influence was. I never have set this value. My files are always mp4. I will change it as Trevor suggested.

I am glad I can apply your instructions to new videos. Thanks.

Regards, Antois

Not so. I upload 100Mbps files to YT. If you downrez your upload then it'll look poorer than it should, so upload at the source rez and let YT process it.
