VS 2021 User previous VS 9.5 links located in folders can they be deleted
Query from previous post 2nd July in burner is busy issues....with screen shots.
Looking through my computer files in case I could see any hidden issues still re burning etc - can these two files be deleted without any impact on current version in use in a project at present - they relate to VS 9.5 which I thought I had totally cleared.
Appreciate any advices

Re: Error message: The burner is busy with another application
Provided that you do not have any .VSP files which have been created in VSX9.5, that you may still require to be used at some later date, then VSX9.5 can be safely removed

I've been away intentionally, past few months, from VS 2021 computer issues with burning a disc/downloading via Create disc file or downloading directly to an external drive.
See Irishrose you are persevering & "trying" all options. If only it will work for you....know the frustrations !
I can't completely remove VS 2021 & reinstall on my computer yet as I still have project materials from 2015/2016 (Grandkids) selected in the Libraries (video/stills) & have another partially made footage that has been sourced from various files. If you export your library that will create a backup, re-install Video Studio, check that the program is working ok then Import Library
What I have just completed is a project same era/kids etc - 58mins - usual text & audio. Viewed - looking good on computer. Not expecting anything different - yes "burner is busy" so opted for direct download to create disc on external drive & second try create disc image & again download to external drive.
Are you able to create a Disc Image an Iso file, You can play that using VLC Media Player, if good quality then use Burn Disc Image ISO file, you should now get the same quality on disc as ISO file
Both downloaded ok BUT EXTREMELY/BADLY PIXILATED in video scenes...still photos ok, of course. Viewed on TV & computer both not acceptable. Again viewed prior render in project & looking fine....Odd wind etc might cause some pixilation but not footage inside etc. Check the properties of the original properties of the video files, take note of the interlacing, Upper or Lower fields
Another NEW ISSUE (never ever had prior) as each audio clip changes with fade start & end always being used - NOT A SMOOTH AUDIO TRANSITION at all - slight obvious click. Even went back into the project footage & checked & reset many audio changes but all were ok & still the new rendered version had the same issue. Unfortunately what you describe was a known issue for some users with no real / easy fix, but did not affect all users and quite difficult to replicate.
With VS 2021 (purchased 9/2021) I thought video editing life was going to be less challenging & I could move along rapidly & complete 4/5 remaining projects of Grandkids for their keepsake as they are now older & video taking days are over. I do not intend to be project making discs going forward once this achievement is done. For 22yrs I've had video making challenges in the early years & enjoyed always the output of family & travel discs.
Looking through my computer files in case I could see any hidden issues still re burning etc - can these two files be deleted without any impact on current version - they relate to VS 9.5
which I though I had totally cleared. Will add screen shots - sorry if I loose this post will post separately.
Any advices are always appreciated - now re pixilation & audio transitions.

Re: Error message: The burner is busy with another application
August 18, 2022
Melda, I hope you are having better success than I am.
After uninstalling all versions of VideoStudio (including hidden items listed in previous conversation) and reinstalling VS 2021 I am still unable to burn a disk. The result is still 'Burner is Busy'. The only thing I can successfully create is an MPEG-4 version. Out of curiosity I created an MPEG-2 and MPEG-4. The MPEG-2 was terribly pixelated, but the MPEG-4 is viewable on a TV.
The latest attempt is a 14 minute video created using still images (JPEG, BMP and PNG) video (MOV taken with an iPhone) and the assorted titles, transitions, etc.
I am beyond frustrated with the program and I can't understand why this is happening.
HELP !

Re: Error message: The burner is busy with another application
Irishrose, I well understand the frustration & very strange we both started with our issues almost same day - back in January 2022 I think. We can't be the only ones with issues but no other users have jumped on board. Editing footage is no longer an enjoyable pleasure with no "perfect" end disc produced for others to view. I mentioned before all I want to achieve is possibly 4 more 1 hr discs of grandkids then completely over it sadly including no more holiday videos.
I note your attempts at uninstalling, trying various create versions with little quality production at the end. Give you credit for all these recommended efforts you've tried. I'm now very reluctant to totally uninstall VS 2021 which I was going to do after this make before I fire up again much later in the year as I will be away travelling on multiple journeys.
Currently I have a project 52 mins at audio adding stage (using transitions/titles/text) so unsure how I will end up with trying to burn again possibly create Disc Image then on external drive. Last had pixilation issues & audio change over noticeable as in my 5/7/22 post & answered by Admin with no definite fix available particularly audio.
I will report back once current project completed ? We are trying to be achievers ! I doubt, but could be wrong, that if VS 2021 totally deleted & new Version VS 2022 purchased/installed would there be any difference with the - "Burner busy".
Thanks for being an ear. Melda

Re: Error message: The burner is busy with another application
Hi Melda,
I am in total agreement with you. What was once an enjoyable project has turned into total frustration. The first posting for 'Burner is Busy' was back in 2020 and the person was using version 2019. Corel has put out several versions of the program since this first issue. Why have they not addressed the problem? I'm not willing to spend more money on the latest version of VS to find that the same problem will occur.
I'm not making a limited amount of videos. My projects are annual videos of all the family gatherings along with important and silly things that happen in our lives. My family all enjoy watching them. We make a big production out of it ... "Premier Night" party ... and have even filmed everyone entering the room on a lighted red carpet with a commentator and interviews of the stars of the show. My grandson keeps asking when this years video will be ready. My answer, "we haven't finished living this year yet."
Having this message board and those willing to help us with this issue is priceless and I appreciate them taking the time to try to solve the problem.
I am considering purchasing an external disk drive in an attempt to use it to burn the disk. Did you say you used an external disk drive to burn a copy successfully?
Enjoy your travels
Irishrose

Hi Irishrose
I thought you had managed to burn a disc as this post
https://forum.corel.com/viewtopic.php?p=391928#p391928
Clearly your more recent reply shows differently.
So two issues
1/ quality of the mpeg2 video being pixilated, I would assume a difference in the properties of the original video and the rendered video.
Check those and compare against the project properties, pay attention to the frame order, if interlaced can cause quality issues if changing those.
2 / burner unavailable, thats the most annoying issue, do not really know what to say that has not already been said, we could try remote access, even so i do not know if I can fix things, I will send you a PM.

Re: Error message: The burner is busy with another application
Hi Irishrose, Your family productions are certainly a "royal" family event & it is important to be able to look back on life & fun times...as long as we can keep up with technology to be able to view our efforts. I've always done family events & travel for past 20 years but youngest of grandkids now growing up & time to move to another project - Family Tree to computerize it with relevant information already held & passed down to me.
Hold off with the purchase of an external drive just yet .....in case there is a fix from the offer of remote access support which I have kindly accepted. Have wondered about this option in the past.
Yes I have been able to get around "the burner is busy" & burn discs from Create Disc Image then to External drive but unfortunately the project quality is all the things you have mentioned.
I'll stay in touch & see what current project will do within the next week - hopefully.

Re: Error message: The burner is busy with another application
I raised the question with Corel Support with the following reply.
“AFAIK, there is really no fix. Another application has locked the ATAPI layer in windows causing this issue. What I have been telling my clients who get this, is to burn to ISO, then go to Tools > Burn Disc Image(ISO). Because that module is a glorified skin of the Windows applet, it just works.”
Melda m
Creating the disc Image ISO will not / should not affect the quality of the DVD.
The rendering / conversion processes to burn the disc is the same whatever process we choose.
We should of course be using compliant MPEG 2 files to burn the disc, this avoids the additional render (Convert Title)
Both options, Create to Disc or Create Disc Image (ISO) use the same video files, they should be Mpeg2
The Create to Disc uses those files to burn directly to disc after creating the menu structure that is.
The files on disc being the same as the originals, other than the extension being changed to VOB
The Create Disc Image (ISO) option does exactly the same but instead of saving to disc it saves to a folder on the hard drive, the contents within this folder is identical to the files on a DVD disc.
The folder being an ISO, effectively the folder has been zipped.
You can in fact unzip the ISO to view its contents which are the same as on the DVD Disc.
The ISO can now be played to check quality before being committed to disc, Burn from Disc Image effectively copies the ISO to disc with no changes to the video content or menu structure
So whatever process you use the quality should be the same and that should be the quality of the original Mpeg2 video files.

Re: Error message: The burner is busy with another application
Hi Trevor,
Yes contains video. Frame order not necessarily in sequence captured & has multiple still photos between etc
Interlaced not sure of definition other than relates to frame rate doubled or whatever & this can cause pixilation ?
Properties screenshot attached from within actual current project.
Yes will be rendered Mpeg2 then ISO then via Ext burner is my intention.
I have never gone into properties to change any VS settings so you could be onto an issue.
Thanks Melda

Re: Error message: The burner is busy with another application

Thanks for the details
Your videos are PAL using 25fps, upper field, look ok and typical of the recordings I use from my Panasonic camcorder.
The project properties should ideally match the video properties.
The project properties however appear to be NTSC using 29fps, that is viewing the timeline clock showing 00:52:24:028
Anyway can you check the project properties Alt+Enter
When we add a 25fps video to a 29fps timeline the program will add duplicate frames, approx. 1 frame per 5 to increase the frames to fit.
You can view this effect by nudging through the timelines, press keyboard F, advances frame by frame, watch the video advance, every 5 presses the fame will be static, a duplicate. D to go back a frame.
Moving forward
First save your project File Save As giving it a new name add Pal or 25fps to the name.
You can now modify the new project keeping the original as a backup, should you need it.
Project properties, 2 options
1 / set the same as your videos – Alt + Enter – AVCHD – top option 1920 x 1080, settings are good enough.
2 / set Project properties to your output settings, I assume that was your intention using 720 x 480.
Alt + Enter DVD (720 x 576, 16:9, 50i, 8Mbps) typical settings to create Mpeg2 and burn Pal disc.
Do not worry about the 50!, just to confuse us it is the same as 25fps
My choice would be option 1, that would allow me to render to AVCHD creating a video at same quality as recordings.
Then using that HD video convert / render to Mpeg2 Pal of course 720 x 576, using this file to burn the disc. Create the ISO
For new projects, the program can automatically set the Project Properties to Match your video file,
Generally this is the best option.
You can test this, but you must start a new project
From Preferences F6 - Project - Show Messages when inserting first video to timeline – should be selected, ticked, ok to close panel
Now insert one of your video clips to the top timeline, you should get a message panel
If you choose Details you can view the existing Project settings and adjacent the Video properties
Ok to apply the new settings.
Nudging through the video now should have no duplicate frames

Re: Error message: The burner is busy with another application
Hi Trevor again...WOW that is some technical info to take on board & test. For you to put all that in text is absolutely amazing but guess it just comes from experience. I have printed it out, as I usually do & highlighted the best options you have suggested.
Will try Option 1 as you recommended.
My brain is frozen as I have been working on my project for 12 hrs endeavoring to get to testing create disc stage.
I will follow your instructions tomorrow & look forward to being successful. Will leave you in peace for now to assist another user.
Assistance & perseverance appreciated.

Re: Error message: The burner is busy with another application
The other important factor to keep in mind about the final quality of the DVD is not just about the use of NTSC over PAL. It is also that you need to remember that your original video is high definition AVCHD. A DVD by definition is standard definition. The maximum bitrate -- which is a major factor in quality -- that you can use with a DVD is 8000 kbps. (In fact, you can go to 10,000 kbps but it is not advisable.) But your AVCHD has a bitrate of 16999 kbps i.e. twice that of the DVD. In other words, by downgrading the video from AVCHD to a DVD you are halving the final quality of the video. It should still look OK but nowhere near as good as the original AVCHD.
As Trevor has indicated, you can produce a new AVCHD of your project with the same quality as the original. That will play on your computer and TV if it is stored on a USB stick or external drive which your TV should be able to see; or it can be burned to a high definition Blu-Ray disc, though for distribution you will need to have a Blu-Ray burner yourself and the people on your distribution list will need to have Blu-Ray players. You could also buy cheap USB stick drives and copy the AVCHD onto them for distribution to friends and family -- though their TVs will need to be capable of playing video on USB drives. And you can in addition produce a standard definition DVD using the ISO. But the quality will not be as good as the AVCHD.

Re: Error message: The burner is busy with another application
Hi Trevor & Ken,
Thanks for your comments Ken. Any feedback is great. I have always purchased Blu-Ray optional extra in VS. Usually produce a normal DVD & in addition Blu-Ray discs which have been downloaded on my Samsung Blu-Ray external drive. I have never used USB sticks at this stage as my productions are on printable discs & labelled. Because of the burner busy issues I have been able to create in Blu-Ray & burn from ISO file with the external drive...from ISO also regular DVD & export via this external drive.
Trevor, I have completed my project, viewed & all good & acceptable ready to render. Saved two copies ...one to work off going forward ! I have tried to work though with your option 1 with caution & screen shots each step in case a problem. Thought I was doing well then a couple of boxed options came up which threw me !
Screen shot 7 - First was "Custom properties could be cleaned"...which I did accept OK ? maybe wrong option ??
Screen shot 10 - VERY UNSURE & BACKED OUT TOTALLY - "Modifying your project settings may clear cache etc do you want to continue?"
Happy to proceed after your advices again ON OPTIONS.
Screen shot 1 - current properties
3 - current settings
6 - project settings changed
7 - comment as above
10 - comment as above
Only 4 attachments allowed so will send final option box screen shot 10 separately.
I am learning all sorts of things & do wish to be an achiever with completed projects of acceptable quality.
Thanks Melda
