Script - Backup File Locations

Post by LeviFiction »

Script Name: FileLocations - Backup, FileLocations - Restore
Download Link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ParO-W ... sp=sharing
Compatibility: 9 - 2018 (tested in XI, 2018)
Requirements: Place in Scripts-Trusted Folder

These two scripts are meant to backup the file locations inside PSP and then restore them later to the same version. This is not meant to be used to copy file locations across versions. A different script will be made for that purpose. Use this script when you need to reset or reinstall the same version of PSP on the same computer and you want to make sure all File Locations have been backed up.

When you run FileLocations - Backup it'll save the "FileLocations.loc" file to your default workspaces folder. If you're running a 64-bit version of PSP it'll also include a 'FileLocations64.loc" file. DO NOT RESTORE 'FileLocations64.loc' TO A 32-BIT VERSION OF PSP. This is very important, there are some default folder differences between 32-bit and 64-bit PSP. If you restore the 32-bit locations into the 64-bit version of PSP or the 64-bit locations into the 32-bit version of PSP somethings may not work correctly. So be careful.

When you run FileLocations - Restore it'll open a dialog asking you to pick the file. It should hopefully default to the same locationn where the file was saved. But, if it doesn't you should be able to navigate to the file. Select the file, hit open, and it should restore your file locations.

Quick Note: In order to properly restore all file locations and activate the same checkboxes this script accesses your computer's Registry.

Please let me know of any problems you encounter. I have only tested it on my own computer and only in two versions of PSP.

Patches, yes. Upgrades, no.

This is only meant to be used for backing up and restoring into the same version. This is because I'm doing a full backup and full restore, I'm not adding to the current list. The script you originally gave me could be used, with editing, to copy the locations from an old version into the current one. Working on that. But if you were to restore the result of this script into a new copy of PSP it'll replace all current locations with whatever you import. I don't think that would break PSP, but it could give unexpected results. I haven't tested it.

Can you be more explicit about what you mean when you say "it did not work"? Did an error pop-up? Did it fail to make the save file? What exactly didn't work?

I downloaded files, extracted files, placed files in trusted script file, called up PSP2020 64bit program, selected backup script, ran backup script, nothing happened, ran single step mode, it said will run script now, ran script, nothing happened. checked workspace file, nothing in file. deleted all scripts. Went back downloaded scripts again, reloaded script again and nothing at all happens when I ran backup script!

It might be because of the version. I've uploaded a new version of the script that should cover all new versions of PSP and also outputs more information to the Script Output Palette including the file path.

Yeah, no file will show up if it exits with an error, it didn't reach the actual file saving part of the script. I've updated the script to take care of the logic error I introduced and it works for me - re-download and try again.

My testing in PSP 2020 64bit:

Downloaded and installed the new script file (FileLocations - Backup.zip Aug 2nd 2022).
Launched the FileLocations - Backup script.
Worked as expected: the FileLocations64.loc file was found in my workspaces folder.
Closed PSP and did a reset.
In the fresh PSP, in File locations, I added the file locations for the scripts and workspaces.
Launched the FileLocations-Restore script. It asked the file .loc location. I selected it.
All my file locations were restored.

I've tried backup on PSP2020 32&64bit and PSP2021 32&64bit. Each responded "File Locations Have Been Backed up". In PSP2020 64bit I changed file location on brushes. Ran Restore and it put it back to the way it was. Each file location file I renamed for each program ex. "FileLocation64 PSP2020". All 4 files seem fine! Thank You so much, this is going to be a huge time saver for me. I have Jasc 8 and will try later. I'll let you know how things go. Is it OK to pass this on the a Facebook Group - Paintshop Pro Maniacs? Carole Cassel is Admin.?

Just tried on Jasc 32bit PSP 8. Notification came up about earlier version and may have errors. Clicked OK. Modified file location. Ran Restore Same message there my be errors. Clicked OK. When it opened file location, it was in my picture file, redirected to workspace file clicked on filelocations32 PSP8 and it restored files. Worked OK, no errors that I know of. Thanks' Again. STEVEN
