Plug-ins problem

I am using PSP X and X6 and I just discovered that my plug-ins are missing. I have tried re-installing them the usual way through file preferences/plug-ins, .....
The only plug-ins that are showing up are about 3 or 4 that I thought I had deleted permanently. I'm thinking maybe I am not doing this right. Can someone give me the correct instructions on installing plug-in's for older versions? Should I add the whole folder or the files one at the time? I have tried both ways. Do the files have to be in a certain folder in a certain place on my computer? I'd appreciate some advice. Thanks.

Did they all of a sudden disappear or is this just after installation?
With X6 the firs problems with plug-ins appear. Usually after a few times starting X6 up, they will be visable.
Have you tried to untick the middle option in File > File locations > Plug-ins > Limit loaded plug-in files to .....

I remember there are a few versions where you have to untick that option. Form PSP 2018 (I think) you have to make sure that option IS ticked for the plug-ins to be visible.

Are you using the 32-bit or 64-bit version of PSPX6? Older 32-bit plug-ins will not open in the 64-bit version.

Just had to get a new computer this week so I am re-installing my PSP programs and all will be 64 bit if possible. Now I have to try again to get the plug-ins to work. I'll check back here and give you an update. Thanks for the replies and help.

Okay, just keep in mind that many older plug-ins are 32-bit and will not run on a 64-bit version of PSP. However, you can run 32-bit PSP on a 64-bit computer and therefore use your older 32-bit plug-ins.

As you may already know, when installing PSP you are presented with a dialogue box giving you the choice of installing both 64 and 32 bit versions (which is recommended), or just the 64 bit, or just the 32 bit. In versions PSP 2021 and earlier, the dialogue box starts with the recommended 64 and 32 bit versions, so you just leave those ticked. But in PSP 2022, the first and ticked choice is the 64 bit version. So just be careful to read that carefully and move to the second choice if you want the 64 AND 32 bit versions. And as Kathy has already indicated, you will need to choose this if you want your old 32 bit plug-ins to work.

Thank you for all your help. I finally got my software installed and I installed the 64 bit versions if available. This is really crazy. I go to file locations, add a plug-in and the only plug-ins that appear are 2 or 3 that I don't even use and that I have tried to uninstall several times. Redfield and Richard Rosenman (which I have never even heard of!) They keep appearing in the effect drop down and nothing else.

One question: Do I choose the folder or the individual files when I choose a plug-in to add? Seems like I used to be able to add just the folder. This is sad because I also use Photoshop and it's almost impossible to use effect/plug-ins with that. So I count on PSP for effects!

Should I go back and reinstall them 32 bit? All suggestions are still welcome.

You should only need to add the folders where the *.8b? Files are found. *.8bf are filters. It's important that that file be in there for PSP to find it.

If the filters are 32-bit you need the 32-bit version of PSP installed. If the plugins are 64-bit then you should use PSP 64-bit.
Just match the type of plugin to the type of PSP.

You don't seem to understand. As Kathy and I have said, when installing PSP you are offered a choice to install BOTH the 64 bit and the 32 bit versions, and this is what we recommend you do. If you install only the 64 bit version, as you appear to have done, you will not be able to use your 32 bit plug-ins since they will only function in the 32 bit version of PSP. So the idea is that you use the 32 bit version of PSP when you want to use your 32 bit plug-ins, and you use the 64 bit version when you have 64 bit plug-ins.

And as Kathy has said, even if your computer is a 64 bit computer, you can still install 32 bit programs on it. So you can have both 64 and 32 bit versions of PSP on the same. And as an extension of that, you can install the 32 bit plug-ins on your 64 bit computer, but they will only play on the 32 bit PSP which hopefully you will now also install.

You are right, I don't understand but I'm trying. I made sure my PSP programs were installed for 32 and 64 bit now and I am back trying to get the plug-ins working. Here's what's crazy. Those 2 plug-ins that I mentioned were the only ones coming up to use (Redfield and Richard Rosenman) are still there. I have done a complete computer search and I cannot find them on my computer. If I knew where they were, I might be able to find out why they're the only ones working. But they're like ghosts, they are nowhere.

A question - you mentioned you just got a new computer but your profile says you are on Windows 7. Can you confirm what operating system you are using and how you did the search of your computer.

I did get a new computer last week (May 17) and yes, I am now using Windows 10. All of the windows I open have a search box in the right hand top corner. I typed in the plug-ins and searched them all. Apparently, I missed something.

Try doing a search of the entire computer at once by using the search box on the bottom left on the task bar.

Do you think this could be caused by Windows 10? I was afraid of problems when I upgraded.
