VideoStudio 2023 Wishlist

Post by Ken Berry »

As always when a new version is released we provide a thread in which your wishes for the next version can be posted.

Please keep comments short and to the point, with any lengthy discussion of specific points taking place not in this thread but as separate items in the forum itself.

The wishlist allows us to direct any visiting Corel development staff to just one topic to see what users want rather than wading through a few hundred posts.

Bring back real time video editing for motion. It's annoying as all hell you can't see items infront of the layer you're editing on the main screen any more.

But it's was last seen in VS 2020, and has been removed since. really fristrating to time motion objects now without.

Once again, I'm asking for the ability to use SonicFire Pro's SmartSound within VS. This was something that was available in previous versions of VideoStudio. I would love to see this in the Ultimate version. At the very least, I'm even willing to pay for the plugin. SmartSound's quality just gives the video that much more of a professional touch. And let's face it, sound is a very big issue with video. You can have all the high-def video down pat, but if the sound quality is poor, it's extremely noticeable.

As you can see, I've been using VS for many, many years (since the old Ulead days), and have bought nearly every version. I'm sad to say that the latest version, other than speech-to-text, is just filled with gimicky features that most people can do with their smartphones. Even at a discount (for current users) I won't be buying this round. Hopefully the team at Corel can put together some real high-value improvements into the 2023 version, starting with SmartSound.

I really do love VideoStudio, and have been a faithful customer for many years, so I hope somebody reads this and considers at least making the plugin available. I'm willing, again, to pay extra for that, as it really does take the quality higher.

Sincerely,
Ron

If you already have Sonic Fire 6 -- which appears in your signature block -- it is a stand-alone program and if you have a collection of SmartSound recordings, then of course you can use it with any version of VS. As you would know, though, SmartSound recordings are particularly expensive. When the SmartSound plug-in was part of VS, it only came with a couple of SmartSound albums, so you did not get a wide variety of music to choose from, and things would get very repetitive in your projects unless you paid for more tracks. I have Sonic Fire 6 too, and quite a collection of SmartSound discs, which I still use with VS 2021 and now VS 2022.

Another reason I can't see Corel reverting to the SmartSound plug-in is that they bought out ScoreFitter several versions ago and added that to VS to replace SmartSound. I agree, though, that it is limited, and I have never used it.

1. Urgent, need return to black clear wavelength of audio on video track instead of VS 2022 Ultimate that is green and blurry, thanks.

2. Ability to auto sync audio on video and overlay tracks.

Make selection items darker, especially in Track Motion. The arrow next to the Mosaic icon is almost invisible. Is this an eyesight test?

A quick mask selection tool, like the one in Photoshop, for selecting objects where you can add and subtract.

Would like to see a toggle switch added to preferences to separate the scrubber in time line and video preview window. ( 2022 VS ultimate timeline and video preview are in sync) Prior VS did not have this action. Can be annoying to some users.

I have a 24" screen and it is still too dark and I have 20/20 vision, but not cat eyes. They need to modify the interface.

I should only have 2 wishes so far.
1. instead of STORYBOARD, a new timeline like MediaStudio Pro 8.0 / Video and Audio /. Others may remain as is.
2. Customers no longer record on a USB key, not on DVDs or BluRej discs. I would need a program that copies video to a USB drive with the MENU option and that the video cannot be copied from a USB device and cannot be formatted only in the VS 2023 in which it was created. In my opinion, this would be of interest to several cameramen.
Well thank you.

Regarding #2, why an NLE needs to do such OS related stuff? What other NLE encrypt the files?

VS 2022 Vignette removal tool needs improvement. I have a camcorder with a wide angle lens that at wide open produces slight vignetting. An very slight zoom and it disappear all the way to full zoom. I can avoid vignetting by just using a very slight zoom. However, when I used VS to remove vignetting it did not do a very good job. Video was not too pleasing. So, I tried PD 20 and in this regard it shines. It is very simple to use and the results are good. At first I used PD's vignetting setup and was not pleased with the results. Then I saw the screen had a Fish Eye Removal function which I tried and it yielded good results. VS should get something like their Fish Eye Removal tool and save me the time of switching programs when needed.
What is nice about their tool is that as you modify the intensity, with the arrow key, you can see the vignette disappear.
