Corel Video Studio as far as I am aware should install on Windows 10

Re: Error message: The burner is busy with another application
It does indeed, 2 caveats: 1) an older version that you previously installed under win7 will probably have share problems if you just 'migrated' to win10, which is the MS recommendation. 2) If however, you did a clean install of win10 (basically start with an empty PC, with just win10 on it) then those older versions should install and work OK. Why this issue? I wish I knew, it just worked out like that, and my theory is of a win7 specific variable associated with the CVS version that is leftover in the registry. A clean install expunges the registry and starts anew. On a migrated win10 PC, a downloaded VS2021 installed for the first time works fine.
As to the burner disk issue, with 2 separate drives each giving the same error message, VS to me is off the hook as a cause: it becomes the symptom. IMHO, it really is something that grabs and holds the drive.
Advice in prior posts is to use a clean start and progressively analyse (by removal or disabling) which software may be the cause. But if that seems too much work, several other possibilities exist:
1. Nero as an editor, player and burner has a history of doing what is reported here. Do you use it? More specifically, is it installed even even if you don't? If it is on your PC, uninstall it, reboot and try the disk burn again.
2. Since this issue seems to be be present immediately you boot the PC, review the software which runs in the start menu and windows services at startup for non-windows applications that run a slice of themselves in the background during every session, whether you run the parent program or not. Freeware tools like Cclean can tell you (tools menu\start-up) what those items are. Those start-up/services items can usually be disabled (from running) without being uninstalled, which simplifies the analysis task considerably: if disabling one doesn't restore the burner access, enable it and disable the next, and re-try a burn.

Re: Error message: The burner is busy with another application
Greetings all, I'm still in the forum background, reading everything & printing for reference - getting technical ! I'll await a local support friend/visitor, with maybe some computer skills, before I try anything further. I've looked, on internet, to see if I could find a local (Townsville Qld) VS User Group but nothing readily obvious. Will be interested if any reply to Irishrose from Corel Support in the future.
For interest sake my VS Ultimate 21 install was Sept 2021 & this is the first project I have "tried" to achieve. Previous X9.5 & certainly no burn issues on this same computer for all previous years.
Nero is not in my computer at all.
I'm currently working on my next project & will see outcome to burn when finished in a couple of weeks.
Again all info given has been taken on board & appreciated - realize there seems to be no magic wand to just rectify for now !
Thanks Melda

Re: Error message: The burner is busy with another application
If you have not re-installed Video Studio in an attempt to fix this problem then I would try that.
Having said that as other programs / apps have the same issue then it does point to your environment not video studio. To fully rule out Video Studio a clean install would be appropriate.
After all both the two of you are having the same problem with Video Studio the common factor.
Irishrose, if you are concerned regarding the downloaded installation files we can download those again but first have to uninstall video studio. When running the installer file we can choose a different download location, a new set of installation files will be provided.
You should also do this for X9, choose download only and files will be downloaded without installing, allowing you to do that at a later time, just an option, of course you could install straight away.
As mentioned X9 should install unless the serial number is messed up with the move from windows 7 to windows 10 in which case you will need Corel Support.

Re: Error message: The burner is busy with another application
This was your first post on this topic, if the drive is being use as a Flash drive then that will be your problem, we must be missing something.Irishrose wrote: ↑Fri Jan 21, 2022 6:27 pm Has anyone been able to successfully correct the "The burner is busy with another application" error message?
I am running on Windows 10 and using VideoStudio Ultimate 2021
I have tried the fixes listed in this post: clearing the File Explorer "Recent Files" history and looking for the DVD being used by other applications; these have failed to solve the problem.
I am no computer genius but it seems that windows is wanting to use the disc as if it were an external storage medium such as an external hard drive or flash drive.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
InCD mentioned earlier was an issue, other apps allow Drag and Dropping files directly to the DVD drive, those apps also take control of the drive.

X9 will definitely install and run on Win10. If you need X9 then you might want to uninstall VS2021 completely, and then install X9. You can install VS2021 once you're happy that X9 is working as you expect.Irishrose wrote: Before adding any additional software to the computer I checked for compatibility issues. Finding that VS x9 would not run on windows 10 I purchased the upgrade to VS2021.

Re: Error message: The burner is busy with another application
Thanks to all of you who have been working to resolve the issue of 'The burner is busy..'
I have been successful in creating an AVCHD disc by using "Create disc image" and then using the "Burn disc image" window to save the ISO file to disc.
I found "Create disc image" in Sharing under the DVD section and the "Burn disc image" under the Tools tab located in the upper left corner of the VideoStudio program. I'm sure Trevor or David could give a better explanation of how to do this than I can.
The finished product is not 100% but I believe that is due to the size of the video, complexity of transitions/titles/etc, and that I am using still images as well as video clips. All-in-all, it made a DVD that can be watched and enjoyed for the purpose it was intended, not as good as the Mpeg2, but not all that bad either.

Irish Rose
Good to know that you are able to burn the video to disc.
Yes I gave some details here:-
https://forum.corel.com/viewtopic.php?p=391715#p391715
In addition you must manage your properties when creating a Mpeg2, this will help in retaining the best quality.
Playing the iSO using VLC media player will help in checking the quality before committing to disc.

Re: Error message: The burner is busy with another application
Irishrose & Admin
Glad you have been able to burn your discs (even if in a round about way) with some success. Put "that" project behind you now as I have done. As mentioned previously my project burned to an external drive had some pixilation quality issues but like Irishrose a complex production with transitions/video/photos/titles/audio - length 59mins.
I have not had any external friend support to date to trial a few of the Admin more complicated suggestions & have certainly noted Lata Burn Process to read up on again.
I'll stay in the Forum in case anything magical comes along as an easy fix.
My desire is to be able to utilize VS as it is intended Capture to Share & Burn a Disc (within the program) as use to be with my prior editions of VS. This is the first project I have endeavored to produce via Ultimate 2021.
Interesting days - thanks for support...Melda

Re: Error message: The burner is busy with another application
Regarding Burner is Busy and what fixed it for me.
It seems that a few people had the problem VideoStudio 2021 will not
burn DVDs. The following may fix the problem for you if you have used
previous versions of VideoStudio.
Other symptoms encountered for 2 Windows 10 Machines after a full
uninstall of earlier versions of VideoStudio:
1) The DVDs had the latest firmware. Drivers are provided by Windows.
2) The VideoStudio 2021 included program MyDVD, did burn DVDs OK.
Although this is an acceptable way to assemble a project and burn DVDs,
I wanted to do it from the project VideoStudio Share window too.
3) No amount of trickery could persuade the in project VideoStudio Share
window to burn DVDs.
The fix for this problem was:
In fairness I should mention I did not always install earlier versions to
the default folders. However in this instance the default folders were the
ones that needed cleanup.
Before you do this do a complete uninstall of VideoStudio 2021.
Then reboot/restart your computer.
The Solution was to delete the folders for earlier versions of VideoStudio
that did not get deleted during the uninstall. I found some in 4 locations.
Caution: Do not delete folders to other Corel programs you may be using.
For windows users this would be in C:\Program Files\Corel\ and
C:\Program Files (x86)\Corel\
*************************************************************
Example:
If you delete VideoStudio 2021 and the find a file:
C:\Program Files\Corel\VideoStudioPro; then delete folder "VideoStudioPro".
**************************************************************
Also in windows are C:\users\UserName\AppData\Local\Corel\UEIP and
C:\users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\Corel
I deleted any unexpected VideoStudio folders and have not had any problem.
Reinstall VideoStudio 2021 and you should be good to go.

Re: Error message: The burner is busy with another application
Thanks for your interest Jim G.
Lots of good information but not sure I'm game to tackle it all solely, at this stage, in case I cause other issues & lose too much (with material already in my Library)....did try the common suggestions early in posts which were appreciated.
I have not proceeded any further since last post 6/2/2022 to try ALL the previous suggested fixes....have had no "computer minded" person visit to support me.
Have been away from computer past few weeks & currently in process of a new project (which has been in my Library) so will see how I have to download project to DVD like last time - save file & then use my external drive. Have to get the grey matter working again. I do not give up so hope to achieve a DVD production again, some how.
Hope Irishrose is progressing well & able to achieve success. Melda

Re: Error message: The burner is busy with another application
Jim G.,
Thank you for helping us tackle the problems with VideoStudio.
I've followed your suggestions and removed all VideoStudio from the computer, and yes I did find bits in other locations.
I am now faced with the problem of reinstalling the program. You guessed it, I can not locate a download for VideoStudio Ultimate 2021 and the backup of the software that I created runs into an "unknown error". The error occurs after entering name, email, etc.
At this point I am beginning to wonder if it is all worth it.
Totally frustrated
Melda I hope you have better luck

Re: Error message: The burner is busy with another application
Hello Trevor,
Thank you for the link to VS2021. I've spent the past few days downloading and installing VideoStudio and all the bonus packs. Downloading and installing the bonus materials is always time consuming.
I do hope the complete erase of VideoStudio content from my computer and the reinstall will correct the issue with the "burner is busy" error. I have not attempted to burn a disk - that's next on the agenda.
I want to say "Thank You" to everyone who responds to this message board and assists with VideoStudio issues. Without your help many of us would be lost.

Re: Error message: The burner is busy with another application
Greetings Admin & Irishrose,
I've been away intentionally, past few months, from VS 2021 computer issues with burning a disc/downloading via Create disc file or downloading directly to an external drive.
See Irishrose you are persevering & "trying" all options. If only it will work for you....know the frustrations !
I can't completely remove VS 2021 & reinstall on my computer yet as I still have project materials from 2015/2016 (Grandkids) selected in the Libraries (video/stills) & have another partially made footage that has been sourced from various files.
What I have just completed is a project same era/kids etc - 58mins - usual text & audio. Viewed - looking good on computer. Not expecting anything different - yes "burner is busy" so opted for direct download to create disc on external drive & second try create disc image & again download to external drive.
Both downloaded ok BUT EXTREMELY/BADLY PIXILATED in video scenes...still photos ok, of course. Viewed on TV & computer both not acceptable. Again viewed prior render in project & looking fine....Odd wind etc might cause some pixilation but not footage inside etc.
Another NEW ISSUE (never ever had prior) as each audio clip changes with fade start & end always being used - NOT A SMOOTH AUDIO TRANSITION at all - slight obvious click. Even went back into the project footage & checked & reset many audio changes but all were ok & still the new rendered version had the same issue.
With VS 2021 (purchased 9/2021) I thought video editing life was going to be less challenging & I could move along rapidly & complete 4/5 remaining projects of Grandkids for their keepsake as they are now older & video taking days are over. I do not intend to be project making discs going forward once this achievement is done. For 22yrs I've had video making challenges in the early years & enjoyed always the output of family & travel discs.
Looking through my computer files in case I could see any hidden issues still re burning etc - can these two files be deleted without any impact on current version - they relate to VS 9.5
which I though I had totally cleared. Will add screen shots - sorry if I loose this post will post separately.
Any advices are always appreciated - now re pixilation & audio transitions.
Melda
