Error message: The burner is busy with another application

I have Videostudio 2019. I am unable to burn a project to a DVD. I consistently get the following message: "The burner is busy with another application." I have not received any help from Corel on this and I was wondering if any of you might have either experienced the same problem or have come up with a solution. I am running windows 10 with 12 GB of memory and have tried it on two DVD drives with no success. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many years ago Nero use a piece of software to backup data to disc, I forget the name of that but it had the effect of taking control of the DVD Drive, other programs showed a similar message.
All I can suggest is to check which programs you have running in the background.
When you insert a disc does that boot up a program to run / play the disc?

You could of course try re-installing 2019, I would use Program and features followed by the cleanup tool to uninstall. I assume Corel have already suggested that.

With regards to your question whether the disc will automatically run a program when one is installed, the answer is no, it does not. It's the same for a movie. Thanks again for your help.

I just installed Video Studio Ultimate 2020 and purchased the blu ray burning add-on patch. after putting together a trial video to burn on a 25 g BD-R disk, I got the dreaded "the burner is busy for another application". I await a solution.

There are a few programs that use the DVD, windows explorer being one of them. And if there is no other app program that uses the DVD then I suggest a query to Microsoft and the DVD supplier for at least a cause, and preferably a solution.

Try clearing Windows Explorer History, To clear your File Explorer "Recent Files" history in Windows 10

Open File Explorer.
Click File, then select Change folder and search options.
Under Privacy, click Clear.
Click OK.

Has anyone been able to successfully correct the "The burner is busy with another application" error message?
I am running on Windows 10 and using VideoStudio Ultimate 2021

I have tried the fixes listed in this post: clearing the File Explorer "Recent Files" history and looking for the DVD being used by other applications; these have failed to solve the problem.

I am no computer genius but it seems that windows is wanting to use the disc as if it were an external storage medium such as an external hard drive or flash drive.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Old post, earlier I mentioned Nero, it was InCd that at one time took control of the Cd / DVDdrive as though using as a usb, this did allow a disc to be written over and over again.
Have you installed any apps that backup your files.

You could try a clean boot, as far as i know this runs all microsoft services, closing down your background programs. If that works then you can start your programs to see which is causing this disc issue.
You will be best to do a google search for Clean boot.

Hi, Same issue by Irishrose same date for me as well & not a computer genius either.
Using VS Ultimate 2021 & Windows 10.
Successfully produced a project - now Message - "Burner busy for another application".
Have deleted all "Recent files history". No idea about clean boot & not confident to perform.
If being experienced by other users any other ideas please ??

PS Later Info - after multiple tries eject disc/burn etc it started to render...got excited...went right thru all conversions to 100% took about 30 mins - all ok
THEN BOXED MESSAGE -Unexpected error so back to original issue again.

Have you tried using a different burning program, Imgburn is a good free program used by many, trying another burner at least would identify whether the issue is with MyDVD or your system, when I created DVDs I always used CyberLink Power DVD, never had an issue, there is also a free version available

Have only ever used whatever is built in with program - MyDVD I assume. Again not confident to go changing to different burning program, sorry Melda

Wont do you any harm to try, are you able to Create disc image, 3 Output click on down arrow of Recording format and select Create disc image, this will copy your completed project to your PC

Thanks RobertOZ for trying to help. Did opt for Disc Image option....it went thru normal render process then at end -unspecified error.
My projects are all saved as I work on them. Just the rendering today causing issue prior being put on disc (back to Old Ulead days 20 yrs ago...nightmare then with lots of bugs...but managed to survive.)
Have read up about Imgburn/CyberLink in case needed but can't get the rendering to that stage.
Will walk away now & see what tomorrow brings.

Instead of trying to burn a DVD, render your project as MPEG-2, this will create a video that can be played on your computer and for storing on DVDs, method used when you want to burn to disc later.
