MS3D & Win 10

Post by RobertOZ »

3 years ago when I obtained a new Win 10 laptop, I had issues installing MS3D, because the max. number of installations had been reached.
Contacted Corel and requested that my account be reset, which they did with the advice that MS3D was not designed to work with Win 10. Anyway installed MS3D and everything appeared to work correctly as it did on Win 7, the Win 7 desktop has been replaced with a new Win 10 system, installed MS3D, again all appears correct, except that I noticed that the Help and Product Information button is not working, checked on the laptop and that function is working correctly, just thought I would ask if any other member as seen this issue, the Laptop being Intel i7 and the desktop Asus AMD Ryzen 5 3600.
Will probably try a reinstall later

Robert -- I've just checked mine, and Help and Product Information also doesn't open for me. I used to use MS3D quite a lot, but that's quite a few years ago now and there are so many other faster title makers out there now. So I haven't really tried opening Help/Product Info for years and don't know really if it ever opened under Win 10. You'll see my computer makeup in my Profile, but it is essentially all Intel.

When first released MS3D was ahead of its time, but has never been updated.
That's a result of Ulead selling off to Corel and Corel not having the development engineers capable of updating the program. Yet Corel are still marketing and selling the program, even though they do not recommend installation in Win 10

You need a wake-up call. Ulead was ahead of its time with Cool3DPS, Corel's MS3D was the exact same offering but only Win7 compatible. We waited years for an upgrade from Cool3DPS. Being a Moderator, I added a wishlist of features that should have made it to MS3D's release AND another gifted Cool3DPS member agreed.

1) Improve texturing. MS3D has low resolution texture support. Need high resolution textures. UV mapping so one can wrap model effectively with no stretching. Bump and displacement map support. Example: golf ball model with dimple indentions.

2) Raytracing. The ability to have lighting on model cast shadows. Pegacon's golf ball image.

3) Volumetric lighting- emit light rays to a 3D rendered scene.

4) Fluid simulaton or gravity controls.

5) Import motion tracking data, so one can align models perfectly within video projects. Example: Adding a 3D sign to the side of a moving car video.

6) Terrain builder. Create realistic clouds, oceans, trees, mountains, etc.

7) Import other models like Poser characters with group hierarchy, so one can manipulate and animate parts.

8) 3D painting. Allow one to paint on or sculpt models.

I know I mentioned a lot for the wishlist and many will probably not be considered. Reason being is that these are more than entry level features and Corel wants to keep things simple. Its a shame that none of these were offered in MotionStudio 3D after waiting years for a replacement for Cool 3D Production Studio.
