PSP 2019 pre-release - What is PhotoMirage Express

Post by JCBrown »

Just received a message from Corel introducing the pre-release of PSP2019. The Ultimate version comes with PhotoMirage Express. I looked this up on the PhotoMirage site and didn't find any reference to it. There are no details in the advert:

https://www.paintshoppro.com/en/pages/l ... ehicle=edm

And nothing about Express on the PhotoMirage site that I could find:

https://www.photomirage.io/en/

Does anyone know what the difference is between PhotoMirage and PhotoMirage Express?

Back in the good old days there was Outlook for reading emails and a free watered down version called Outlook Express. Think of it as being the difference between Wordpad and Microsoft Word.
It is to tempt you into purchasing the full version.

I expect it is just a light version, but it would be nice to know what the differences are. If Express is useful, I just may upgrade PSP, if not, I'll probably wait. Corel has indicated that it has taken into consideration over 50 fixes/modifications from users. A list would be nice.

The cropping tool has been revamped. It will be interesting to see if it resolves the complaints that people have had.

AS far as I can see the crop tool is unchanged - still gives the extra space to allow for rotation of the image, rotation still rotates the image and not the boundaries of selected area. Cannot see a method of turning that off. So they have so far ignored this request to revert or at least allow us to revert to the PSP X9 operation. ArrrGGGGHHH!!!!

+ they have a section to allow changes to interface- can now make text of menus larger, icons larger, scroll bars larger. But the text of the thumbnails in the Organiser is still woefully small and does not seem to allow changes to that.
* Splash screen no longer shows what is happening so may as well turn that off.
* map mode now works as it did with the update to 2018.

* version number now reads as 21.0.0.119
Eula has now been changed to allow installing on up to 2 devices (Desktop + laptop) owned by licencee and used only once at a time at the same address. Previously it was "on up to 3 devices"
Seems to be a bit of tightening up here.
I think Affinity by Serif has the most user friendly eula :
1. if you are a private individual, to download, install, use and run for personal use, one (1) copy of the Serif Software directly on each computer running Microsoft Windows (“Windows Computer”) that you personally own or control.
https://affinity.serif.com/en-gb/license/

I now have two Desktop computers - 1 running (switchable) Windows 7, 8.1 and 10 ver 1607 with options to also replace / add windows 10 versions 1703 and 1709. The second Desktop runs 1803 and will continue from there 1811 etc.
The two laptops run Windows 10 version 1607.

Now I have been purchasing two copies of each PSP version allowing installation on the 4 computers with two installations spare for Win 7 and 8.1.

With the new Eula I would have to purchase 3 copies of PSP 2019 to have the same coverage.

With Affinity I would only need the 1 purchase but would be prepared to make two.

The new version seem interesting I hope they have solved the problem of thumbnails that fades at each reopening it takes so much time to reopen.

I tried Free 15 days free of Photo Image and find it really basic, so I wonder what is included in the Express version include in PSP2019 . waiting your commentaries

Okay, so PhotoMirage express does not let you save the file in CPM (Corel Photo Mirage) format. You can only export the result, so no ediitng, saving, and coming back later to pick up where you left off. The export option is limited to specific sizes and qualities. It has presets based on the service you intend to upload to: Facebook, Snapchat, Youtube, etc. The full version has a custom export option where you also get to pick the output type: MP4, WMV, or GIF.

Other than that, as far as I can tell, the tools are exactly the same between the two.

Do you know if we can buy an upgrade separately or just the complete version ?

@LeviFiction

Under export to YT, what is the export format? I would like full HD (1920x1080). If one of the formats gives that, then I can live with it. From the video tutorial that I watched, it seems that the export was made to the format selected and then the user uploads to whatever. Is this correct? Or with YT, does this mean that an export is not saved to disk but somehow sent directly to YT?

Thanks,
John CB

PhotoMirage does not connect to any social media site. Those are simply presets to make your life easier by conforming to the best fit for each platform. All export as MP4, only full PhotoMirage seems to be able to export to WMV or GIF by using the "Custom" export mode.

Once exported to the size you want, you can upload the MP4 anywhere.
