Absolutely pointless thread. Seems that Corel does not care about users. We have already paid, so we are not important anymore.

- more enthusiastic in creation of lens correction profiles more frequent and outside the normal update cycle. From my understanding since I edited them myself this txt files could be exchanged very simple
- adds vignetting correction to the lens correction database
- adds chromatic aberration correction to the lens correction database
- supports the correction information the camera puts into the EXIF of the RAW's
- makes a switch in ASP that allows either to choose/apply:
- lens correction from ASP database
- correction information included in RAW EXIF
- no correction

Actually, I'd like Corel to stop trying to keep up with the numerous cameras and lenses out there and their respective vignetting and distortion. This stuff has already been crowdsourced at http://lensfun.sourceforge.net/lenslist/ so all they have to do is make AfterShot compatible with that data. It's really lame and annoying to have to keep fighting with ASP every time I get a new lens or borrow one from someone and then realize it's listed as "uncalibrated" in ASP.

At least provide written instructions, easily found, for users to convert the XML data at LensFun into whatever format ASP wants. I tried doing it for a Nikon 55-300mm VR lens and gave up trying to figure out how to map the kl and vignetting data into the cal_abc format that ASP uses.

I'm afraid this is way too complex to implement since there are so many differences in the basic concepts of LR and ASP, beginning with completely different demosaicing algorithms, different handling of adjustment layers, different toolsets for i.e. perspective corrections etc. ...
Well now that's not strictly true.
A) When Lightroom uses DNG it stores all the changes in the file itself, if Corel had made the effort to support these DNG files (which is an open format! but not free) then they can pull in all the changes previously made
B) It's simple enough for the Corel guys to give a step-by-step user instruction explaining how to export XMP side cars for all the raw files in LR which are plain text files and easily supported when importing into other software.

OK so the following is what I've put on the bugs page so just reverse it for with a wish for a finished and decent prog - not the awful thing that AS3 is at present. Still you can't please everyone. I personally have only met a handful of folks who like the 'catalogue', library' and 'import' stuff most like me prefering to work with the file system we already have in our HD's, backups and archives at least AS gives the option which Adobe does not. I here that On1's proposed RAW converter will also ditch the Adobe system - I would much prefer both to be there to cover the bases. Other than that just cure the bugs!!!

"Glad I have not bought this.
Trying to work with Fujifilm X images to date : - lock up's on opening. 'artifacts' (White lines 2/3 pixels and up to an inch long) on processed images. Single shot HDR locks for up to 15 mins then just to a black screen.
Working with NEF and ORF images seems OK except for the single HDR which opens to a dark plus magenta image, applying a maximum exposeure increase shows a dull 'muddy' image.
I can't understand the HDR problem as the same program works OK in PSP X8 - can't be used for serious work though because of the severe noise/grain ?
Help screen says it will now work with DNG - I keep a backup RAW image database of everything converted to dng's - AS3 (just like 2 ans 1 before it) will not open them.
So at present it gets 2/10 - only being generous and because it is fast and you don't have to use 'catalogues','libraries' or 'import'.
Unfortunately it's back to Lightroom for the NEF's, ORF's and DNG's and the baffling Silkypix Pro for Fuji. Hoping that On1 comes up with something better."

In a future update, I would love to see the slideshow feature incorporate a way to save slideshows and share slideshows for updating to Youtube, etc.
Aperture used to do this with their slideshow and it was very useful.

+1
version 3 was so bad for me that i got a refund and switched permanently to darktable. (which i love now btw)
and the support was a joke in helping...
so my wishlist would be something like this:
1. no showstopper bugs
2. no showstopper bugs
3. no showstopper bugs
4. no showstopper bugs
5. no showstopper bugs
6. no bugs
7. no bugs
8. no bugs
9. no bugs
10. no bugs

but currently i don't care anymore because of darktable... ;)

I wish that Metadata information could be stored as a preference and always applied by default to an image for example information like Photographer and copyright seldom change and have to be added into each picture one at a time.

Gik-tal : Metadata information stored as a preference

you can do that: make your default settings, set your default Metadata information and go to - Settings - save as raw (or camera) default

Improved print control would surely be welcome.

Canon has their Print Studio Pro program/plug in for Pro series printers that works with their software, and also as a plug-in for Adobe programs. It would be nice if the plug-in could work with Aftershot. Not sure if Aftershot's plug-ins follow a standard protocol.

Please provide a converter for the lensfun database so we can use the data which is available there. It's very annoying having to manually copy the values from their xml files to the ones AfterShot Pro 3 generates. And in the end you're never sure if the values are really correctly registered. Of course native implementation would be preferred but as long as that's not happening a converter would at least facilitate the live of people with lenses not covered by the AfterShot database.

It would be nice to have a tool to adapt view clarity like the one in DxO Optics. It's is very handy if you have photos where the view is disturbed by mist.

Hi, I just bought AfterShot Pro for Linux. There's one issue which should be solved for future releases. ASP doesn't use the system fonts on Ubuntu (Ubuntu Gnome 16.10). That means that all fonts are too small and it's hard to read them.

Beside that I'm quite happy with ASP 3.2.

Re: AfterShot Pro - Wishlist for future versions -- Tetherin

Post by kumsa »

Being able to tether for RAW exposure values is critical to studio flash. Trying to gauge the results from the back of the camera and it's jpg histogram introduces too many complexities when shooting with flash/es. Having a real-time capture via tether, with the RAW histogram, would be a significant jump in professional utility.
