What Corel program are you using?

You may want to check the list of Corel program that is compatible with Windows 7. Just visit: http://corel.com/windows7

I am not sure anyone is going to be able to help. MSP is now an ancient program, produced well before Windows 7, or even Vista, were produced. Moreover, Corel has dropped it as a program, so there are no updates to make it compatible with Windows 7.

However, I see that your have Windows 7 Ultimate, which allows you to run a program like MSP in XP Compatibility Mode. Have your tried that. Unfortunately, I don't have Win 7 Ultimate, so I cannot give you the steps for that, but you should be able to find it using a Google search...

Well, very late to the game, but I have cracked the "no sound" problem with MSP8 and Win7. I'm posting this for posterity, and on the off chance that it will help someone else. I, like many, loved MSP, having started using it back on version 5.

The following solution worked for me:

Presuming you have successfully loaded and run MSP8. I don't recall having too much trouble getting it installed to my Win7 machine, but it has been a few years. After some experimentation, I have found the problem lies with the uvavi.vio file, located in the "C:\Program Files (x86)\Ulead Systems\Ulead MediaStudio Pro 8.0\vio" folder. I happened to have Corel DVDMF7 installed, so I was swapping folders from it to the MSP8 folder. Narrowed it down to the Vio folder, and finally to the uvavi.vio file.

The version of the file that was installed with MSP8 is 356 KB (364,544 bytes) and has a date of ‎Tuesday, ‎September ‎06, ‎2005, ‏‎10:57:38 AM. Couldn't find a version for this file. The DVDMF7 file would give me sound while scrubbing and playing, but I lost the ability to create or use an avi timeline. It would only do mpeg. It also wouldn't render some audio. I tried a total of 5 different uvavi.vio files from various versions of MSP and DVDMF.

Long story short, I had an old DVDMF5 SE disk laying around that came with my Hauppauge card, so I installed the program and tried it's uvavi.vio file. It worked! This file is 356 KB (364,544 bytes) with a date of Tuesday, ‎October ‎02, ‎2007, ‏‎3:14:16 PM. Note that it is exactly the same size as the one that installed with MSP8. The date is different. Scrubbing, playing, rendering to avi or mpeg, adjusting volume, etc. all work. So far I have successfully played wav, mp3, DV (PCM), and AC3 audio.

The DVDMF version that had the file that worked is listed as 5.78.0000.0 SE, when viewing the "about" screen from the program.

Good luck to any stragglers out there that miss MSP8. I wish Ulead/Corel had taken the time (3-4 hours) to do what I did.

Mistake in my previous post- Looks like I moved the whole vio folder from DVDMF7 to the MSP8 folder, THEN replaced the uvavi.vio file with the one from DVDMF5. Already deleted the DVDMF5 program, so I don't know if replacing the MSP8's vio folder with the one from DVDMF5 would do the trick. Perhaps I will try it and see. If so, I will post a reply.

Prior to the file/folder swapping, I had tried running in the various compatibility modes, as well as the classic mode on the desktop, to no avail. With my current working setup, it doesn't need any of that.

At any rate, it should give anyone still interested in MSP somewhere to start.

OK, after fooling around with it some more, all audio works OK if you replace the original MSP8 Vio folder with the one from DVDMF 5.7. It also works with the one from DVDMF6. If you are still not getting audio, some areas to check are the project settings, as I had it go to 'video only' once. Also check the playback and scrubbing settings. You may have to play around to get it right.

Note that these DVDMF 5 SE (5.7) and DVDMF 6 Vio folders don't have the "RMDLL" subfolder in them that the MSP8 and Corel DVDMF 7 have. Not sure what those files do, I was able to use MSP8 fine to edit & render without the RMDLL folder during my brief testing. (on edit: Appears these are for "RealMedia," makes sense. Doh!)

I did have some crashing issues after closing MSP8 while using the DVDMF 5 and DVDMF 6 folders. An error came up pointing to the "DrawDV.dra" file. I replaced my MSP8 DrawDV.dra file with the one from the DVDMF 5, and the problem went away. The file is in the "Drawing" folder.

I didn't have luck with this process on MSP7, although I really didn't spend much time with it, as I will use MSP8. I have some uncompressed footage from a 2k scan of old Super8 film that plays fine on the timeline. I have the file on an SSD. The res is 2048 by 1536, 4:3. Data rate is 1220 Mb/s, or 152 MB/s. Unfortunately MSP only has a choice of 15, 24, 29.97, or 30 fps, and the film is 18fps. All workable. Nice that MSP will let you change the frame rate of an avi. Yet another reason I like this pgm. I will have to convert to 24fps anyway for the bluray.
