X8 Free ran out, save library???

Post by Mitch from Canada »

Hey there,

Used the free trial and just bought the full version of X8 Pro Video Studio but I've read that I should back up the library from within X8 (Export Library) before installing the full version. Thing is, my free trial ran out and I can't access the program anymore to back up the library....any help is much appreciated.

I'm moving this thread to the Video Studio forum since it is more appropriate there.

Apart from that, I have never, ever heard that said before about exporting the trial version library. I would certainly not think it necessary unless you have built up a very special library during the trial period. The X8/8.5 trial version in any case is a severely limited version, and I can only repeat what we advise all users of all versions: uninstall all of the trial version before installing the full version.

Where did you read this, by the way?

I read it on the Video Studio forum. I think it applied to installing the down loadable full version vs the disc version I bought here. I backed up all of my Corel 18.0 file and I just wanted to make sure the library I currently had wouldn't be wiped if I installed the full version. It does say it will remove all components before installing disc. Just trying to play it safe.

Thanks -- although that tanguero post for me dates from 10 March: http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... 15#p303515

However, he was pretty clearly talking about upgrading from one *full* version to another full version, not from a trial version, as far as I can see. We have become very careful over the years about getting rid of all aspects of trial versions before installing a full version.

So, will the current library be wiped out when all components of the trial are removed? If so, is there a way to save the library before I install the full version? I can't get into the trial version anymore since it expired.

Thanks,

Mitch

What do you have in the library that makes you worry about deleting the old library? There are no video or any other source material actually stored in the library. The entry in the library are only links to the locations where the files are really located. So as long as you have not placed any of your source files in a VS directory, they should be alright. In any case it seems that you do not have much choice since you can no longer access the "old" library anyway

Good that you copied 18.0 library , now install the new one and depend on what you want to restore you can get it out of your backup and place it in the new one.

I have never ever saved a library when upgrading from one version to another and I've done that quite a few times now - you do NOT lose anything by not saving a library - and it takes minutes to set up new libraries in the newer version showing only the current relevant clips.

To repeat what cannuck said above - Nothing in the libraries is real - they are all just links to the real and actual files on your computer you will not lose anything because you do not back up old libraries

all a bit academic anyrate if you cannot open the trial to backup libraries
