importing 3d model but can't add color or texture

Post by benoit-1842 »

I have 3d models that I import but I can rotate them, scale them etc. but the color and texture doesn't show up.... Is there a way to change color or texture of my imported object or they have to stay gray ?

Thanx Ben

Hi Ben

You have to select the object from the Object Manager panel, expand the Group to identify the individual objects.
Once selected they should show with a red bounding box.

If you do not see the panels choose the left top menu View -- Palette Manager

Now the Colour option from Attributes Panel should be available.

I want to advise you here that you can use any of software which helps you to fix this programme accurately. I also recommend you that Corel Draw might be help you for this to add colour and textures very easily. Actually, this idea is optional otherwise you can also import color or texture in 3D model via Palette Manager.

In my case the colour option in the Attributes Panel is not available even after selection...

When you open your 3D model, you can choose to open it as a C3D or as a D3D type. Those options are on the Open dialog where you choose your file to import.

You will have more attributes when you select to open your model as a D3D type.

See if that helps.

Same issue.

This happens when selecting a group of objects. you have to expand the group and change the colour (or texture) of each element. Some properties are not available when a group has been selected - which is a pity that support for bulk or multi-select is not there in some of other form.
I'm sure there is a way to do this, it's just eluding me right now. For example when I import the 3D model for the aeroplane (biplane) it is orange - how do I go about changing it's colour?

Kingston has the answer. :D :D :D
1. Save the grouping as a directX .X file
2. Clear/delete object from the project
3. Import the file you saved in step 1 :) now you can change it's color - but remember that it's all one object now.

(Love it when I answer my own dumb question after hijacking/necroing someones thread.)

Hi

From the timeline list you can select individual object from the Group
Then change their Attributes / colours.
