Dear fellow AfterShotPro users,

having bought a personal license for the full noise ninja feature, I'm furious about the fact that the newest "update" of AfterShotPro is a "downgrade" of the software. I'm taking lots of pictures under difficult lighting conditions and have used noise ninja extensively. I definitely want to continue to do so. Does that really mean I have to return to AfterShotPro 1.1.0.30 and stay with that version? Corel can't be serious! They are pulling our legs, aren't they?

I have no problem with ending licenses between Corel and the Noise Ninja people - I've bought a personal Noise Ninja license (as by the fomer advice of Corel) and insist on continuous use of both AfterShotPro _and_ Noise Ninja, since I have paid for both products and have been offered continuous support.

Too bad I haven't found an e-mail address on the corel site - do I really have to send my complaints by yellow mail, or does anybody have their e-mail?

Best regards,

Ernst

What makes you think that this would have any effect?

Have you also tried to contact PictureCode and voiced these same concerns to them? If they don't license to Corel, there is nothing Corel can do to continue integration after that time. Not to mention that it looks like NoineNinja has reached the end of its line anyway.

I'm not sure that's entirely correct. It's true that they're not selling a product that only does NR any more, but they are about to release a Photoshop plugin for Photo Ninja, and so we won't be all that far from where we were with Noise Ninja. We just won't have integration with ASP.

AFAICT Corel/ASP has lost the right to continue to include Noise Ninja as a plugin for ASP.
Corel purchased Bibble which had this option and it was included in the initial release of AfterShot Pro. The Bibble team was initially employed with Corel but are no longer there. Further development has ceased for at least the past six months or more.
This link appears to be the last word from Corel.

I guess the issues have legal implications that require a total "black out"

I think, Corell killed AfterShot. So, we don't need to wait for an update. Let's go, and use some other soft, for instance Darktable Linux, RawTherapee (Linux/Windows) or other commercial soft.

I found 1.1.1.10 patch on the internet, installed it, and there's no support for Olympus E-PL5. LOL

I changed camera (E-PL5 to E-M5) in ExifPilot, and even AS 1.1.0.1 opens this ORF files correctly.

This is disgusting. I recently purchased an upgrade from Bibble5 to After Shot Pro because Bibble5 will not install on the latest version of Fedora Core (FC18).

I had previously downloaded a trial of ASP to confirm it would run. It did. This trial included Noise Ninja. So I bought an upgrade license to unlock this version of the software.

However, the license I was sent did not work and I was advised to upgrade to Version 1.1.1.10. Now I can unlock the software with the license key given, but Noise Ninja is missing.

This makes sense aside from one glaring issue: As an existing Bibble5 owner I have a license to use Noise Ninja.

I am very disappointed and used Noise Ninja a lot. Moreover, the Corel Plugins site is broken so one cannot even look there for alternates. I have posted about this elsewhere on the forum.

All in all though, this move is not a good look. I will enquire about a refund and look for some open source alternatives already mentioned here.

Post your observations on Facebook. https://www.facebook.com/Corel
Corel does not monitor this forum, but it does monitor its facebook site.
A much more public way to express you sentiments!

Why do you think they monitor their facebook page? Do you honestly believe the monitor anything in the real world?

They're also on google plus (https://plus.google.com/118220561983405570745/posts), but didnt even bother announcing the last update there.

Actually you can see from the facebook page, when ASP died. Look at all the activity there until the end of may 2012.

You are very probably right.
But note I did point the OP to the main Corel Facebook page and not the CorelAftershotPro page. They clearly do monitor the main page and perhaps there is no such thing as bad publicity.

Thank you! We could all go to their facebook page and say what we think.

I did. Just posted this to the Corel facebook page you linked to:

"Why does Corel continue to sell AfterShot Pro, when there have been no added support for cameras in almost a year, and long confirmed bugs are not fixed, and apparently no development is going on, despite serious performance issues.

Regular updates to the AfterShot Pro facebook page ceased by the end of may 2012. The download site for plugins is down. The program can't check for updates because that webpage is also down.

But it's still possible to purchase a license, even though if your camera is less than a year old, it's probably not supported.

Is Corel simply robbing people of their money, when they continue to sell licenses to a program that appears to have been discontinued?

I also have added a “friendly” Facebook message. I have found in the past many people adding complaints really do annoy such firms, it may not make them return to supporting the program but it may well annoy the hell out of them and warn others to avoid such a firm.

I'm in the embarrassing position of having set out on a trip without ASP. If someone could make a copy of 1.1.0.30 available and PM me a URL I'd be very grateful.

Edit: Thanks for all the offers. I now have a copy.

Well I have stopped using the upgrades from Corel. I have reverted to the last release (ASP 1.0.1.30) that came from the original Bibble team.Frankly since they are not putting in functionality and now seem to be removing it I do wonder about its validity.
I do have a lot of plugin presets that work well for me but I could do all my raw processing in another product and then do my final processing/publishing in Bibble5/ASP.

All seems very sad to me that some big company with deep pockets buys out a small company and then effectively dumps the product as now any competition is removed.
In these cases I do wonder if the source code should not be forced to be put in the public domain to ensure that the purchaser has to advance the source code in order for the purchase to have been useful to them.
Probably wouldnt work in the current controlling greedy capitalist environment where companies have no concern for people only the money that they can screw from them.
Still learning after all these years!

Well, why couldn't Picturecode people do for ASP the same they did for Photoshop ? :?:
OTOH, we can also ask why they would do something for a challenger since, if I didn't misunderstand, Photoninja is to do the same as ASP - see http://www.picturecode.com/tutorials/index.php -.
Might be that we'll soon have a valuable alternative to ASP...
