AfterShot Pro - What do you really like?

+Linux support! No need for me to change OS to use ASP, and more important. If I want to change OS to OSX or Win7 I can still use ASP! If I want to change back to linux I can still use ASP also! If we now just can get PSP ported to linux then it will be complete!
+Multi threaded! I have a six core cpu and want it to work, not just sit idle.
+Layers. ASP is not PS, but the layers is enough for the simple things I need to do.
+Plugins! There are some great plugins available. I can extend ASP to fit my needs.
+Presets! It saves me loads of time.
+Catalogs! And not just cataloging. It can be used side by side with my file system
+Selective color correction. How I can just take some blues and enhance saturation of the skies, or use it to remove red eyes with an adjustment layer.
+The user interface. It's no longer as easy to custumize as it was in Bibble 4, but overall it's better and use the screen real estate in a sensible way. Some good design choices have been made.

I have been an avid LightZone user until its demise.
I still have it and continue to use it (for unfinished projects) thanks to some knowledgeable friends who do their best to keep it alive... sort of!
That project is called LightZombie, by the way

I was keeping an eye on Bibble's promised 5th version and now I am a user of AFP.

- The Linux support is great. (See my earlier post on packages for Arch Linux).
- The speed is simply unbelievable. (This was one of weakest points of LZ).
- Layer funcionality is very good. (I still believe the implementation in LZ was better especially for the first timers; almost all the tools came with innumerable layers. There was no need to specifically create a layer or a layer mask etc).
- Complete workflow is good (especially at this price point).
- The concept of plugins as "natural parts of the workflow" is good. I hope more plugins become available soon.
- Customizable keyboard shortcuts are nice.

I can continue ad nauseam!
In short : I like using (and playing with) AFP.

Linux support. This is essentially the only product out there. Please don't start to suck. If you drop linux support and I have to move to windows if I'm serious about photography then I won't buy another corel product on principle.
Handling shots taken with Red lighting (eg at concerts). Much better than Bibble5 (and after a quick check, much better than rawtherapee) which looked washed-out pinky-orange in comparison.
Once I got my head around the changes from Bibble I now like the catalogue system. Under Bibble if I imported into the catalogue that was fair enough, I didn't mind that as a step. But if I deleted the picture from the catalogue it only deleted the entry and didn't remove the actual file, thus continuing to take up space. Under ASP I press delete on my blurry shots, it confirms I'm sure, then actually deletes the file. Alternatively I like the way doing this isn't hidden from my feeble brain the way it must have been under bibble
Linux support.
Your rapid updates to provide raw support for new cameras that are released. (hint hint)
The keyboard navigation is nice (but I haven't used any of the major competitors to know if their's is better)

I'm on day 12 of my trial, parallel with Lightroom.

To be honest, price is my #1 like. Some things just work better in LR, and it has overall far more tools. But at almost 3x the price.

Speed is good. Faster than LR, somewhat. Tools are mostly adequate - not nearly as comprehensive but decent, considering the price. De-noising could be better. Lens corrections don't seem to work as well as they do in LR. Stability, so far, is decent on my W7 x 64 computer. I did run into issues with catalog "losing" some files and not letting me import them back, I ended up deleting it and starting from scratch.

I am a very happy camper with ASP! Though it ought have been in PSP X4.

Here is why I like it so much.

First it is snappy i.e. fast. It does what it does quickly.
Than it uses plugins. A very nice feature for a raw editor. All the plugins that are available are quite useful too.
Than is uses layers if one needs to. A very nice touch.
Than is has what I think is the single most important feature is it is nondestructive. That is a true blessing.
I like its catalog, how it works. Very neat.
I like how it has extensive image control. Far more than just about any other raw editor I have used to date.
I like how it can transfer to PSP X4 for further editing.
I like its layout. I use dual monitors yet with it I don't feel the need to wish for dual monitor support. I wouldn't be opposed to dual monitor support but I can work just fine as it is now. That was an important feature with PSP X4 to me. Not so with ASP.

Really, I was very surprised by Aftershot Pro. I did not think it would be as good as it is. Its good to be surprised this way!

I think that those that have some issues with it not supporting some file types need to realize its a camera raw editor. I have read an awful lot about it not reading DNG files.

I chose to use Bibble 4 some years ago, as this product offered maximum flexibility by allowing 3rd party plugins.
It's still installed on my computer as with transition to bibble 5 the bib files did not convert (*still disappointed about that*)

Transition to ASP went more or less flawlessly, as soon as grad filter plugin becomes available I can dump Bibble 5 and use ASP for all my needs.

So, yes, apart from the familiar interface, 3rd party plugins still are the top reason for preferring ASP above any other RAW workflow tools.

I would appreciate to be able to put a logo in the raw-picture, as for example, did the plugin "Ghostwriter" in Bibble5. I have at the moment to use Gimp to do it, in the JPEG export..
