Third Party Software that can be used with Corel Products.

We have received several posts since the inception of this user forum asking where extra material can be obtained in order to enhance an Intervideo-Ulead product.

Rule 5 of the forum rules states:

To meet the needs of our forum members without flouting the above rule, I have created this post which for purposes of forum integrity will remain locked.

Before providing any links I must point out that these links are only provided for the purpose of convenience to our members. Neither Intervideo-Ulead, the Forum Management or myself endorse any of the products listed and I/We have no associations with the vendors of any software listed below. I/We do not guarantee the quality of any of these products or their compatability with the Intervideo-Ulead products they are designed to work with. If there is a known problem with a particular product then this will of course be mentioned. The abscence of any known problems does not imply that problems do not exist, only that they have not come to the knowledge of our forum members.

Any Member who does find a compatability problem with any listed product is invited to post that problem in the appropriate forum and also bring it to my attention by way of a PM so that this thread can where necessary be updated.

Members are invited to send me a PM with details of any links thought to be appropriate for inclusion in this thread. Before doing so you must refer to rule 5 above, any requests which appear to flout rule 5 will be rejected or in case of doubt will be discussed by the Forum Moderators and appointed Senior Forum Members. Any decisions made to reject a request for an entry to be made in this thread will be final.

The Forum has no vested financial interests in any products listed and will not enter into any negotiations between forum members and third party vendors. Entries in this thread will be made under categorised headings and will contain simple links to where the third party software may be found. It will not include any recommendations (other than known compatibility issues) and no prices will be quoted.

Members purchasing third party software that is listed in this thread do so at their own risk and should make whatever research is feasible before making any decision to purchase an item.

The Painting Creator feature in VS X2 is a good innovation, but perhaps you guys haven't seen VisiSketch Pro? It was originally designed for use with slideshows of stills made with Photodex ProShow, but obviously can be used with other software. Should be able to be used with VS too.

At first this was posted in our links to FREE stuff but after further investigation it was found that the site is slightly mis-leading. To clear things up what this site offers are downloads of evaluation software. I downloaded one of the files to find out what was involved and found that although it is fully functional it will place a "watermark" on any saved files. To remove the watermark you have to purchase a registration.

Before you insert your photos into VS increase the dynamic range of the photo. Try a FREE trial version of this software Photomatix: http://hdrsoft.com/
You will be amazed at there sample photos.

There procedure recommends using a tripod and taking 3 photos (1 photo underexposed, 1 normal & 1 over exposed) of the same scene. This is great if you carry a tripod and only take scenic photos. This is not possible for me. Also I like to take photos of people who tend to move! Besides I have a library full of photos that I want to use and increase the dynamic range on.

So lets look at another approach to your existing photos. Here is what I do to create 2 additional photos from the same photo.

1. Using your favorite Photo Editor software load a photo.
2. Lighten the photo (Lighten Shadows) and save.
3. Darken the photo (Darken Highlights) and save.
4. Load the 3 photos into Photomatix.
5. Play with the settings (in your Photo Editor and Photomatix) until you are happy with the results.
6. Save the dynamic range increased photo.
6. Write the settings down for future projects.

Now compare your original photo to what you just created!

Your next VS project just took on a new dimension by adding a dynamic range of details that you didn't know were in your photos!

What does it do?

Converts PAL to film-motion NTSC, or NTSC to film-motion PAL!

PAL to NTSC

DVFilm Atlantis performs the following operations in a single pass:

It intelligently deinterlaces PAL video for a "shot on film" appearance, without reducing resolution.
It then converts 25 frames per second into 29.97 frames per second interlaced NTSC, with a modified 3:2 pulldown, the same method used to convert film to video.
It also converts 16:9 anamorphic to letterbox if required.
It can also letterbox (crop) 4:3 video to 16:9 if required.
It can also simulate film grain and red layer emulsion shift, if required.

No modification to the soundtrack is needed, because with DVFilm Atlantis PAL to NTSC the duration of your movie stays exactly the same.

Supported file formats are Quicktime, MPEG (.VOB), or AVI files. The Mac version only supports Quicktime.

NTSC to PAL

Atlantis can convert three different types of NTSC to PAL: Normal 60i (interlaced NTSC), NTSC with a 3:2 pulldown like film transferred to video, and NTSC with a 2:3:3:2 pulldown such as created by the Panasonic DVX100 or Canon XL-2 24P video cameras. The file formats can be Quicktime, MPEG (.VOB), or AVI. The Mac version only supports Quicktime.

This function is useful for filmakers wishing to incorporate NTSC stock footage in their PAL projects, or filmmakers wishing to edit 24P video in a PAL editing system, or converting a NTSC tape or DVD to PAL format for viewingon PAL systems.

It converts the NTSC to true 24P progressive-scan, without reducing vertical resolution.
It then speeds up the 24P to 25P (by +4%), and speeds up the soundtrack to match, and enlarges the frame size to 720 x 576.
It can also convert 16:9 anamorphic to letterbox if required.
It can also letterbox (crop) 4:3 video to 16:9 if required.
It can also simulate film grain and red layer emulsion shift, if required.
