Re: VS10+ and Windows 7
It possibly could be made to work if you have Professional or Ultimate editions of Windows 7 which allow you to run older programs in XP compatible mode. But even then, I am not sure it would run perfectly...

Re: VS10+ and Windows 7
Sorry, but I don't understand. Which version is what? VS X3 is fully compatible with Win 7. X2 is compatible with the addition of a patch. Earlier versions are not compatible.

Sorry - I meant which version is compatible with Windows 7 and you answered that. Do you know if I can get VS X3 as an upgrade or do I have to buy it outright?

Re: VS10+ and Windows 7
You can ceretainly buy it as an upgrade if you have the serial number of a previous version (needed during the installation process of upgrade versions).

Re: VS10+ and Windows 7
Sorry to be such a dunce but is it VS Pro X3? Right now, Corel has both the full version or the upgrade for 29.99 - why so cheap? Are they getting out of the video editing business?

Re: VS10+ and Windows 7
Yes, the current version is VS X3. I hadn't realised they have both the upgrade and full version at the same price. They are in fact identical versions -- i.e. the upgrade is the full version too -- with the only difference being the requirement for a previous serial number and, usually, a cheaper price. But at that price it is a steal.
People are already asking if this indicates that a new version is about to come out. Just about everyone on this Board is NOT a Corel employee, and we don't know exactly when any new version is going to be released. Even Beta testers aren't told that, and in any case are sworn to secrecy.
But one thing you need to bear in mind. In the past, there has been some ill-feeling generated when people have bought earlier versions of VS at a very cheap price, only to have the new version released a couple of months later. Users had to make individual cases direct to Corel to either get the new version free or at a special price, and this was usually only given if the purchase was within a month of the new release.

Thanks for your candidness. I bought it and we will see where it goes from there.

Hello RTR1944,
They're correct, RTR1944. VideoStudio 10 is not compatible with Windows 7, that can be the reason why you cannot install the program since the incompatibility with Windows 7 is messing up the installation process.
You can visit http://www.corel.com/servlet/Satellite/ ... 4516325170, to know which version of the Corel Software is compatible with Windows 7.
There is a workaround for you to make old program works on Windows 7, however we cannot assure you this is a 100% fool proof. You can use the Windows 7 Program Compatibility and the Windows XP Mode with Virtual PC, which are both from Microsoft.
You can follow the steps for Windows 7 Program Compatibility from this link: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/wind ... of-Windows
You can download and install the Windows XP Mode with Virtual PC from this link: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtua ... nload.aspx.
You also want to consider upgrading your Corel software, since the latest version of VideoStudio is full compatible with Windows 7, you can download the 30 day full working trial at http://www.corel.com/trials.

Re: VS10+ and Windows 7
Sure enough, I buy the VS Pro X3 upgrade on 2/7/11 and on 2/22/11, Corel comes out with VS Pro X4. I called and the standard company line is you can get the new upgrade for 49.99. That added to the 29.99 I spent on 2/7/11 just happens to equal the 79.99 advertised upgrade. Ken mentioned that I could make a case direct to Corel to "either get the new version free or at a special price." Is the 49.99 the "special price" or is their a contact person I can write to get it for free?
