Welcome to the forums,
Vendors will bundle some sort of software with their products. Some of the bundled software will be older versions, and may have been tweaked by the vendor to work with their hardware. The bundled software is also a way for the software manufacturer to "advertise", to give you a little sampling, so you will hopefully buy the current full version.
It has always been a common practice of Ulead, and now Corel's to exclude TBYB (trial), and SE (Special Edition) versions from updates.
It would appear that PE 5 was a version put out by Ulead, which no longer exists. Ulead was purchased by Intervideo, then Corel purchased Intervideo. Corel has dropped many of the former Ulead and Intervideo products.
