Since it's already off-topic and non-Ulead, I decided to lock the thread. For anyone who want to discuss SDVDA, I think Sony forum would be better.

Hi folks,

Rather than post a redundant message, I thought I'd throw a reference to another thread here:

Up top I have started a thread called

Are we all wasting our time authoring DVD9 and DVD5?

It suggests the possible replacement of DVD9 and DVD5 with Blu-Ray or HD technology. It also suggests that this might be why DVDWS3 is in hold. Could Ulead be preparing to trash DVD9 and DVD5 products, and replace them with Blu-Ray and/or HD authoring software?

I expand on these thoughts a little in the other thread.

The DVD 5/9 support is still included in Ulead Blu-Ray / HD DVD products, not to be replaced.

I wouldn't hold my breath though. It's like getting a turbo charger for a model T Ford, pardon the punt.

I'm not saying they should not patch DVD WS 2 but they would be better advised to get a new version on the market that is up to today's technology, like 16:9 menus etc., not just s**pid Vista.

To steer this thread back to it's original topic, I do want a new version of DVD Workshop. There are only two things I specifically want. 16x9 menus and support for progressive files. Anything else would be gravy as it meets my current needs. Vista support would be nice but I have no intention of upgrading to it anyway.

Perhaps our members ought to throw a few suggestions into the DVD MovieFactory 7 wish list
MovieFactory Wish List For future Versions

If you think about what MovieFactory 6 DOES contain, and then think about what extra bits and pieces would be needed to bring it up to DVD Workshop standard, the list would probably contain things along the lines:

1. Play lists.
2. Subtitles - editable of course.
3. Selectable audio tracks.

We can make a menu from scratch by using Photoimpact and so that at least is not an insurmountable hurdle but even doing that we would need the above 3 items at least.

OK the point has been made that a year has elapsed with no news of DVDWS3. So lets start looking at things from a positive viewpoint and start nagging Corel-Intervideo-Ulead into building up MovieFactory.

This is true, but we can also make menus from Photoshop and the like, and it is not as easy as using DVDWS. It seems to me this is a product that is missing from Uleads portfolio, and is covered by other similar programs as mentioned in this thread, but none are as good as DVDWS. Other programs are at the high end and very expensive. But maybe we have to settle for what we can get. Thats the problem with tasting steak....

Count me in as well. I want 16x9, 5.1 and HD. Also any refreshed software should be capable of burning blue ray discs.
