How to export RAW to hdr editor after applying corrections

Post by b00g13 »

Hi,
I'm trying out HDR module in a single photo mode. I cannot for the life of me figure out how to apply corrections to the photo i'd like to convert to hdr; things like lens correction, chromatic aberrations removal, straightening and cropping. Every time I apply those changes and rightclick on photo's miniature in the browser to get to hdr editor it loads the original version of a file.

If the HDR process takes in the RAW file, it can not see your changes -- a prime requirement of Bibble/ASP is that the RAW file is unaffected by the amendments you make.

As I see it, currently the HDR process is an early part of a complex chain of processing .... RAW -> HDR file -> HDR process -> TIF -> ASP normal processing of sharpening, contrast etc -> output JPEG/TIF

I am hoping that single file HDR might become more integrated in the future ( fixing the highlight recovery process ) -- but multi file HDR would bring other problems as there are 3 sidecar XMPs to consider.

I had not considered lens corrections which rely on info in the RAW -- I guess you could manually copy the numbers over from the RAW default step to the TIF.
Chromatic aberration feels like a problem area though.

It's actually Chromatic aberration that gives me a headache atm. I did corrected the rest after generating hdr image, some simple ones like cropping and straightening can even be done in hdr editor itself, but aberrations are even more visible after processing :(
I have to try that manual way of correcting lens distortion though.

Looks like not very convenient tool, too much actions to take.
