AfterShot Pro Now a Piece of Crap After Upgrade

Post by csh2000 »

This really pisses me off. I cannot believe how bad the quality control is for Corel products. I gave up PSP after 18 years of use last year due to issues and unwanted advertising. Now, after I updated AfterShot Pro with the October update, I can no longer use it.

I was culling through some recent pictures that I took and deleted about ~50 images. After receiving an error that the files could not be deleted, I went to see what happened. The friggen software deleted a total of 83 pictures, not just the ~50 pictures I selected but others as well. Some of the pictures I did delete were not deleted at all. When I went to my recycle bin to recover the files, NONE of the deleted pictures were there. Fortunately for me, I did not delete the pictures from the SDCARD.

I WILL NEVER BUY A COREL PRODUCT EVER AGAIN..

For many, Update 6 from Corel is an update that should not have been released.
I am still waiting for a new update but in the meantime I switched to Luminar 4 it is a super program but you do need a decent computer for it.
For speed I want Corel Aftershot back but then a good working AfterShot.

I contacted support about the issues and they were nice enough to send me a link to the older 3.5 version I uninstalled the October Updated version then installed the old version and everything is working again. I did find that the problem with the update was that for some unknown reason Corel thought it might be helpful if they could show you a history of your changes, so for example you started with a image named Image_001 you cropped or sharpened it you would now see a preview thumbnail for Image_001 but nothing was changed but right under it was another new image Image_001_V2. Here in lay the problem this image was not a real file it was just a creation of AfterShot Pro 3. You could see the unfolding of this by looking at your image totals for example you have 10 images in a folder, you do some fast changes say add a rating or change a setting now when you open the folder in ASP3 you see a total of 20 images, but if you look in the actual folder you only see 10 images. So if you want delete an image you have to delete just the first image not the ones that are listed with the _V# at the end. Windows could not find these files because they do not exist outside of ASP3 this will cause the Delete Error that we were all getting, I did find that if you deleted the xmp file and then tried to delete the file it would work. This might have been a very good tool if it could be toggled on and off but with no way to disable the feature it more or less made using the program impossible.

I contacted Corel about the problem and requesting a link to 3.5 as well. Unfortunately, all they could tell me is that they would send me to level 2. After 4 days, I'm still waiting for a link :-(

Finally got a link from Corel for ASP 3.5. Unfortunately, it took an email to the CEO (Patrick Nichols) to get resolved. But, Patrick responded directly and got the right team involved.
