My picture data contains about 21.000 picture data files. Mostly RAW from Sony and Nikon, some older JPG files too.
I also have some thousands of DNG files. Seems to me these are ignored completely. If that is true a switch from Adobe to Corel seems to be impossible?
All the timeI try to import this it fails at about 9.000 pictures.
I'm desperate. Never encountered such strange and annoying problems with Lightroom (actually 6.4) Actually I cannot use Aftershot Pro 3 as expected.
Hope somebody can help?
Rolf

Re: Import is difficult to unusable
My photo collection is currently 495 GB with 71,795 files. (JPG, NEF, TIFF, Etc…) My photos are all saved in a Windows file system in folders by camera type, date – subject. (example: C:\Photos\Nikon D7100\2015\2015-11-08 Snowmen\D71_????.NEF)
The thing I love about AfterShot Pro 3 is that there is no need to import anything. I use AfterShot in File System Mode and have never looked at AfterShot’s database features. All I need to do is click on the Drive, Folder, and the photo Subfolder while AfterShot is in File System Mode and within seconds all the photos in the current folder are recognized and displayed.
I have used a number of Raw Photo File pre-processing programs, but for me AfterShot Pro 3 is by far the easiest to use and so far gives me the best results. I use PaintShop Pro X9 to edit most non-raw photo files (JPG, TIFF, DNG) and to do final edits of processed raw files (TIFF-16bit). I do all my printing from PSPX9.
I hope this helps,
Charlie

Re: Import is difficult to unusable
Thanks for the answert but it does not solve my problems.
Even if I don't import one of the main failures is that AfterShot does not accept Adobe DNG files. That definitely disqualifies the program for my spectrum of use.

Re: Import is difficult to unusable
I faced with the same problem during my migration from Lightroom. 8 bits files support by other software more or less, but I had to use trial version of Photoshop for converting 16-bits files to TIFF. Yes, I lost original RAW(CR2) files forever, but that was the price of exit from Adobe.hatchcanyon wrote:I also have some thousands of DNG files. Seems to me these are ignored completely. Actually, DNG is Adobe's only format. At the moment you had decided to use it, you become their slave.

Re: Import is difficult to unusable
The Aftershot Users Manual reads:
"Exaamples for supparted RAW-Formats are
3FR, ARW, CR2, CRW, DCR, DNG, ERF, K25, KDC, MEF, MOS, NEF,
NRW, ORF, PEF, RAF, RW2, SR2, SRF, X3F."
But DNG definiely does not work. Aftershot ignores all files named abc.DNG.
Additionally it cannot read abc.JPEG files generated from some camera types. (Easy solution: Batch renaming from .JPEG to .JPG)
It is essential for me to work with one (or more) catalogs to store keywords. Every time an import crashes at 9.000 something files. Therefore it seems tha Afterstop is simply unable to import larger amounts of data files. Starting AfterShot Pro 3 again alway gives this error message:

Trying to use "Fortfahren" (advance) alsways and invariably leads to the next crash, "Abrechen" (Stop) allowa a new start of Aftershopt Pro 3 but all the work done befor is destroyed.

Re: Import is difficult to unusable
My limited understanding about this is that DNG is not really a format, but rather a container for different contents. ASP therefore can read DNG files from certain cameras, but not files converted to DNG, because their contents will differ. Personally I keep the cameras original RAW files.

Re: Import is difficult to unusable
Adobe DNG is the original format to which all others are converted if DNG is used. If the program cannot read Abobe DNG then it is for a lot of useres useless.
Import problem:
I cleared the old catalog, started a new import....and it failed again! No chance at all and as it seems no help. Seems to me if the catalog file grows to a certain size Aftershot cannot handle it anymore.
Why is there no professional help from Corel or is this the wrong place to ask for?

Re: Import is difficult to unusable
adobe .dng will not work! Maybe you can convert it to a format like 16 bit .tif There are a lot of articles from afx why it is no good choice to have "originals" in .dng format (search for afx and dng) ...

Re: Import is difficult to unusable
One step oneward.....
Importing the picture data files into a catalog works if the number of files is restricted. Up to 3.000 was fine. Then start another import with the next batch of files and repeat until all files are imported. Not really nice but a workaround.
About DNG files: Aftershot Pro 3 can't, Corel Photo-Paint X8 can! Why is the function not available for Aftershot?
