No audio when burning AVI files

Post by KizzaBlue »

Hi,

When burning AVI files in MovieFactory 7 SE (the version that came with VS Pro X3) it burns the picture fine, there is just no audio.

What am I doing wrong?

What sort of avi file is it?
Are you making a dvd-video or a data dvd?
What are you then playing this dvd in?
Does this support the type of dvd you have made?

I'm just making a DVD-video to play in a DVD player, but it wouldn't play the sound on my computer either and yes my DVD player supports the DVD-video.

It puts a thin green line either along the bottom of the picture or at the side.

I'm afraid you still need to supply a bit more information Kizzablue, you say you are burning AVI files to a DVD - but not many DVD players will play .avi files - are you sure yours can ? - To make a DVD which will play on most standard DVD players you need to convert to a DVD compliant mpeg file - then burn that to DVD as .vob files in a specific format - which VideoStudio/Movie Factory will format for you - so what exactly are you burning to DVD.

But we also need to know what sort of soundtrack your video has - not all sound formats can be used in all countries in the world - please right click on the video in your timeline (the video you are burnig to disc) - and copy the 'properties' of the video and then post them here (using standard Windows Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V to copy and paste)

It is quite possible you are not using the correct settings but without a bit more information we cannot say

My project turns to no audio too. I am making a DVD-Vedio. At first I converted MP3 to WAV; however after three projects, audio was out of work.

Glad to know it is not just me having this problem. I have been using MF since version 4 and ALWAYS got audio with Mpeg files. I bought MF 7 Pro and beautiful picture and no audio. Just to keep my sanity with this I used MF 6 with the very same video/audio track and picture and sound came through beautifully. I am at a loss as to how to solve this since I am doing what I have always done with Movie Factory. I too would appreciate some assistance with this. Maybe it is because I had to install the content and bonus packages seperately from the authoring software. Maybe something go screwed up there but I have uninstalled and reinstalled twice and still no audio in 7. In the past software, everything was downloaded together and NO PROBLEMS. By the way, I am using the DVD and not a download from the internet. Thought that might help! Listening for any help with this...if not, I will just continue to use 6 for my authoring

Did you check the Normalize Audio box at the burn stage? For me, doing so caused the problem you describe. If you search the MovieFactory forum you will see this is a well known bug that has been ignored by Corel. Unchecking the Normalize Audio box allowed a disc to be burned with audio.

I am having the same problem too. When I "preview" the project, it has audio, the file has audio every step of the way, but the finished dvd has no audio. This only happens when I burn them using Movie Factory 7, when I use Movie Factory Pro it has the audio, but I hate Pro because I can't choose a thumbnail menu with no motion, no sound, etc. I like everything about Movie Factory 7 (I bought Corel Video Pro X3) except for the fact that it only burns dvds with no audio.

If your original video uses Dolby 5.1, then MF 7SE cannot reproduce that in the output. That could be your problem, so you might need to specify -- in the Options cogwheel icon in bottom left -- to use Dolby dual channel stereo...

I ran into the same thing just a minute ago. The original video is dolby 5.1 but when I looked at the settings in the cogged wheel it shows dolby stereo with 2/cl not the 3/cl...do not know what the difference is..but I change it to the LPCM stereo and am burning another DL disk. This is a two hour HD video from a 1080i/60 camera converted to the AVCHD 1920x1080 video format and the video comes out stunning...but now hopefully the audio will too since this was a concert and the audio is important...not to worry it was a private show and not copyrighted...my son in law is in the group.
Will up date this thread if this works. Must say if the video is burned using the same settings it goes a lot faster. Will have to turn off the dolby 5.1 on the Corel video pro x3 setting since it can not be used by this burning software. Makes me wonder why if you have the feature with one product you do not provide the ability to use it on another. They go hand in hand. Do you think Corel will upgrade the Factory to use that?

Re: No audio when burning AVI files/DVD HD

Post by wpatters1229 »

Just to clarify this is a HD video with dolby 5.1 not AVI. AVCHD or something like that video...hate all the acronyms.
Did not see the one about normalizing the audio being checked will cause the problem....just about done burning another DL disk with the non dolby checked and the normalization Checked on. I always do that on making audio albums but if this fails I will give it another try with it checked off. If then it does have audio someone needs to SCREAM at Corel to fix the problem since this is pretty new software and I have the latest updates.

In fact, since I wrote the above about MF 7 SE not being able to produce 5.1 audio, I need to modify what I have said. Others (notably Trevor Andrews) have shown -- and I have now confirmed -- that in fact you can burn 5.1 Dolby using MF 7 SE. You still produce your new file in Video Studio with 5.1 Dolby. Then you put that into MF 7 SE. Forget about the properties shown in the cogwheel icon in the latter if the box beside "Do not convert compliant MPEG video" is ticked. Your new video *is* compliant with international standards and thus will not need conversion during the burning process. That includes the audio. In other words, if your new video is SD mpeg-2 and you aim to produce an SD DVD, it will be produced with 5.1 audio regardless of whether or not MF 7 has the 5.1 licence, since it does not convert either the video or the audio. Ditto with high def video using 5.1 audio if you are producing either an AVCHD hybrid disc or Blu-Ray disc. Regardless of what MF 7 SE says, it will still produce 5.1 audio if the original video has it.

And you can test this. If you produce an SD DVD, then import one of the .vob files (simplest for this purpose by simply copying one to your hard drive and renaming the extension from .vob to .mpg). Put it in the VS timeline and right click and you should see that it still has 5.1 audio showing. Ditto with Blu-Ray discs where you import a file from the STREAM sub-folder within the BDMV folder, and again in VS Properties, you should see it still has 5.1 audio.

Try my latest suggestion (without normalisation...)

And if you want to avoid making dud coasters, why not burn a DVD Folder instead? Then you can play it on a software player to see whether everything is OK or not...
