No audio when burning AVI files

Several users have been unsure where to post issues relating to the copy of MovieFactory 7 SE now supplied with VideoStudio X3. To make life easier you can post problems here.

Not sure how to do that. The last one I burned did indeed work with the audio so having the audio normalized is a BIG BUG...but now lets move onto the video!! I skipped forward to see some of my transistions and how they worked and the file file is cut in half. I thought it was too good to be true that a 6 plus gig file, two of them on the same disk would fit. It should have been one one each disk if they where indeed not altered but burned just as they where rendered in X3. How does that happen? Should I be doing all my work in Factory and not doing any editing in X3? Very confused as to how this happens. Just trying to figure this out is nuts. The version 12 had everything in one place and worked just fine.....ugh. Any ideas on how to start this whole process over so the videos are not cut in half?

I just recently purchased and installed MF7SE on a very capable machine (Win 7 64-bit, core i7, lots of memory, etc.). I have previously used a number of different video editing and DVD burning programs so I am not a complete idiot with the process - but still realize that there are many ways to get to an end point. That being said - I have been getting more gray hair trying to get something useful out of MF7SE.

The biggest headache has been trying to make a DVD from an AVI video. The preview looks and sounds good but the resulting DVD/DVD files have no audio. I have noted that when a perfectly good AVI is added and properties checked it indicates there is no audio - which therefore appears to be the reason for no audio on the output.

I tried using DVD Factory 2010 and it made an mpg file with good audio.

I believe I have a good set of codecs installed - but what is missing? Or, is ZMF7SE just unable to process AVI audio (I have tried files with MP3 and AC3 audio)?

Thanks for any insight.

Welcome to the forum.. :)

You purchased and installed DVDMF 7SE? Where did you purchase it? Or do you mean that you purchased VS X3? The reason I ask is that the only way to legitimately get DVDMF 7SE is through the purchase and registration of VS X3.

What flavor of AVI are you using? There's only 800 different ones. AVI is just a container for the numerous codecs around. I've even seen WMV use the AVI container, which is not that common to do. With the video clip in the timeline, right-click on it and select properties, and post them back here. Some video formates will use different audio codecs, such as MPEG audio Layer3 (mp3), WAV, LPCM, or Dolby.

Ron - thank you for the fast reply.

Yes, this is a legal copy of MF7SE, downloaded when I installed VideoStudio Pro X3 (purchased via Tiger Direct).

As stated above - an AVI that has good audio in VSx3 does not in MF7SE.

I have attached a picture of the file properties of a typical file from each of the programs:

Shouldn't both VSx3 and MF7SE handle video files in the same manner? At least they should handle all the common formats like those you mentioned.

Thanks for any insight into this.
