32 Bit Plugins & Windows 10

Post by FlutteringBy »

Hi All,

Two days ago all of my 32 bit plugins worked just fine.....then I made the mistake of updating my Windows 10 to the 20H2 update & now a lot of them are history... & of course they were my favourite ones... :( ...

Has anyone come across an updated version of a plugin called Simple (Filters?)...it had the effects of: 4 Way Average, Blintz, Center Tile, Diamonds, Half Wrap, Horizontal Grain, Offset By 3, Pizza Slice Mirror, Quick Tile, Top Left Mirror, Zoom Out & Flip...

I do realize this is a very old plugin, but would appreciate suggestions on either a newer version or a newer, different plugin with similar effects....

Many Thanks,

Ahh....G'mic!!....I didn't realize it would work with Psp, I have used it in Gimp & always wished I could use it in psp....

Will it work with psp 32 bit or does it have to be 64 bit?

I have the same question. The zip file only contains one exe file and doesn't actually show that it is installing. Double clicking that file gives me a prompt saying I'm missing a dll file.

So I downloaded the qt version which is supposed to be standalone and unzipped it. Double clicking the exe opens the program but it won't open any of the jpg files I try to open with it.

Jean-Luc pointed to the GIMP plugin version of G'MIC. You want the Photoshop version

https://github.com/0xC0000054/gmic-8bf/releases

EDIT: Or use the NIK scripts edited to save as a PNG and open that in G'MIC QT. I keep getting a weird memory error when I try using the G'Mic plugin.

I tested the G'mic plugin on all my 64bit versions (PSP X7 to PSP 2021) and it works on all.

See some testing here:

I just tested quickly the 64bit version from the link suggested by Levi and it seems to work fine on Windows 8.1 (PSP 2021 64bit 23.0.0.143, that is w/o the updated patch). Made me happy, thanks!

EDIT: I spoke too soon, it works fine while inside the G'MIC window, but it does give a memory error as Levi said as soon as you hit the OK button to get back to PSP. Same thing with the version posted by Jean Luc. Also tested it with PSP X7 and PSP 2020. That's a pitty :(

Btw, It works fine with Ps 2018 (didn't test it with Ps 2015, but I guess it will work).

PS. On the bright side, I didn't know there was a stand-alone G'MIC version... I'll try that with the edited NIK script.

All but one of the Simple filters are Filter Factory filters. Do you have Filters Unlimited? You can import into that.
Also Filter Factory Filters normally require an added dll file.
It is
Msvcrt10.dll
and it goes in the C/Windows/ SysWOW64 folder.
Simple filters work fine on my latest Win 10 version in PSP 32 bit

As I explained on the French forum, some G'Mic filters work, but others not.

The filter Artistic/Stylize (similar to Pic to Painting) works well (examples shown on the French forum).

Ok I screwed up! Sorry about that!

When I said I also tested Jean Luc's link, I was actually re-testing the .8bf suggested by Levi.

Jean Luc, the version from your link seems like a standalone version, but it needs a bunch of gimp libraries. I just d/l'ed the stand-alone G'MIC version for Windows, from here: https://gmic.eu/download.html (scroll down until you find the GMIC for Windows - Other interfaces section).

That one launches fine as standalone, and prompts for a picture, but I tried 3-4 JPGs and it always says it cannot load them. It did load a PNG picture I threw at it tho (which was one of those JPGs converted to PNG).

EDIT: Btw, that link also provides a library and a command-line interface.

Levi, I d/l'ed the standalone version of GMIC QT 2.9.4 but for the love of God I can't make it run via the edited NIK script... It creates a new layer, but it never launches gmic_qt (tho it continues and deletes the temporary picture.. in other words, it says it finishes 'successfully').

I have successfully edited the NIK script to call otehr apps, even Gimp itself from inside PSP, but not this one. I tried everything I could think of... I even tested manually to see if gmic_qt works when passing it the PNG as a command-line argument, and it does (both via tha file explorer and via the command line)... but for some reason it doesn't seem to launch via the psp script. Have you made it work?

EDIT: Could it be something extra needed in the subroccess.call() ? http://prntscr.com/wdpovy

The GMIC version I have downloaded and installed is here:
http://www.paintshoppro.fr/!cloud/wl/?i ... 6EHfL9HydT

I copied that zip file to my plugins folder.
I unzipped the file in that plugins folder.
The Gmic folder was created.
In my PSP, which was already set on that plugins folder, it was visible like this:
GMIC folder.jpg
I open an image in PSP (64bit) and click on the Gmic-Qt plugin to open it.
I select the Artistic/Warhol effect and click on OK.
Gmic Warhol.jpg
The effect is applied without harm to my image.
