Keyboard map assigning not working psp 2020

Post by jrmach »

Hello. and please help if you can. Just bought 2020 ultimate and the keyboard assignments are not sticking... I can use the keyboard map to assign keys and it works and shows in the menus and the keyboard map until I close then restart the program, then they are gone. I have contacted corel support and no help, here is what they had me do....

(09:08:09) John: Hello
(09:08:12) Devi S: Are you getting any error message? Any prompts? If yes, please identify.
(09:08:47) John: no the keymaps work until I exit the program. when I reopen the assigned map is back to default.
(09:09:25) Devi S: I suggest you to run the cleanup tool below : viewtopic.php?f=56&t=54317

(09:09:43) John: what will that do?
(09:09:52) Devi S: And then try to reinstall the software by using the below download link to fix the issue
(09:10:01) Devi S: https://www.paintshoppro.com/en/pages/download

(09:10:50) John: are you kidding me. reinstall alwasy seems to be the only option.. I just spent hours installing this program...
(09:11:44) John: the link you sent me sends me to a forum about memory cards

(09:13:32) John: yeah but like i said I just spent hours installing this program now i have to do it again... im pissed....
(09:16:38) John: I know this is a long shot but I would like to speak to the owner of the Corel Company.... It seems Every Corel programs has problems.....
(09:17:58) Devi S: I would suggest you delete temporary files. Removing temporary files can save space on your hard drive and in some cases even stop apps behaving erratically or sluggish. Follow this steps to safely remove temporary files from your system. Removing these files triggers the applications to build a new file when it’s next launched. Temporary files get larger over time and can become corrupt causing system issues, forcing these files to be rebuilt can result in better system performance. Kindly follow these steps provided below: *Delete Temp files. 1. Hold down the Windows and 'R' keys on your keyboard. 2. Type the word: %temp% 3. Hit enter. 4. Delete the items in the Temp folder. Skip all files that cannot be deleted (there will usually be about 3 to 5 temp files in use by windows at any given time which cannot be deleted)
(09:18:07) Devi S: Close out of the temp directory If the issue still persists, I would advise you reset your product to it's default settings. Corrupt workspaces may lead to problems with the stability and/or operability of the application and in some circumstances can prevent the application from launching. How to reset product: Note : This will erase all modifications including brushes, papers, textures and other customizations. 1. Press Windows key + R. 2. Type regedit and hit enter. 3. Click on the + next to HKEY_CURRENT_USER. 4. Click on the + next to Software. 5. Right click on the Corel folder and left click on rename. Call the folder CorelOld. 6. Close the registry editor. 7. On your keyboard, press the Windows Key + letter "R" together. 8. In the run prompt, type %appdata%. This will open the "AppData" folder. 9. Within the Application Data folder, right-click the Corel folder then select Rename . 10. Name the folder CorelOld. 11. Close all files and folders on your screen. 12. restart your computer then try to open your software.
(09:19:45) John: I should get paid for this......
(09:20:12) Devi S: Shall I send the instructions to your email ?
(09:20:16) John: using corel progams is like a full time job just getting them to work
(09:20:57) *** John left the chat ***

So I did all this and still not working.

Any Suggestions would be appreciated

It's a known bug in PSP2020, we all hope it will get fixed with a service pack.

You can still save your Workspace after you have setup your keyboard shortcuts, then manually load it. The Save/Load commands are located in the File->Workspaces menu.

And isn't it sad that the fronline help employees do not have a list of the current bugs in front of them to check so that customers don't waste time, get frustrated and become ex customers.
Instead the conversation should have been :

So simple. Perhaps these employees should have the compulsory reading of this corel forum as a requirement. Perhaps some of them specialising in the different programs would also help.

Yes, and thanks, that is my present workaround. However it even gets lost after loading another image in psp.. go figure.....

I hear you. I have had many many issues with the frontline support workers that have no idea what they are doing. I miss the old days when you could call COREL and actually get someone who new the program and could fix it....

Just thought of something else... Any bets on whether they will fix it with a service pack or just not fix it until release of 2021 so we have to buy new to solve that one and deal with new bugs... All new releases should be free to previous owners if all the bugs where not fixed from previous versions.... God they would be bankrupt... Honestly it is coming to a time very close to move on to a better product. Thanks for listening to my rant.... 8) 8)

I agree that PSP carries lots of never-solved bugs, and often more are added with new versions.

But what disappoints me the most is that Corel does not focus on improving/adding things that are extremely fundamental for any serious work (like the sluggish curves & levels adjustment layers, the slow brush engine, and lots more). I could bet that most of the intermediate to advanced tools still have the Jasc code lol. Trying to seriously work for example with 4k images quickly becomes quite problematic, especially when working with multiple layers, groups and adjustment layers. It seems to me that they have stopped targeting professionals as a critically important customer base a long (long) time ago.

On the other hand, PSP still offers quite a lot for the price, and it is still my preferred program for hobbyist tasks and stuff that can be done faster or easier in PSP compared to the competition. For really serious work though I go to Photoshop (to keep myself sane lol). I recently tried Affinity Photo too, and its tech is impressive and definitely way better than PSP and in some cases even than Ps. However, I am too used to PS and PSP I guess so I never managed to get along with AF interface and some of other peculiarities (I will keep an eye on it for sure).

PSP and PS cover all my needs so far, but I'm wanting to leave Adobe at some point, so I am always in the look (not on a daily basis tho LOL). Btw, Gimp isn't even an option for me, way too primitive (though I had made some free UI themes for it years ago, which became quite popular). Some things in AF were really impressive (their brush engine for example is amazing) but overall doesn't cut it for me yet. So I guess I am waiting for either PSP or AF (or maybe a new entry) to cut it for me all around so I can abandon Adobe completely.

I'll raise my hand if anyone is asking about bad support experiences. I recently had a problem that may in fact prevent me from upgrading ever again. I was going to buy a new product but then never could purchase the stupid thing. Fine, I'll go elsewhere. They even became flippant with me saying "Well then use another product." Then when I elevated the ticket guess who responded... again!

I am a very easy person to work with, I am no princess by any means. However they did not want to work with me. I guess I'll eventually have to find another software company and I really do not want to do that, only because of the new learning curve. Jasc was always so helpful in newsgroups. Those were the days! I'm saddened by the degradation of customer service and software ever since Corel bought it.

Greetings sorry to be the bearer of bad news but this problem exists in PSP Ult 2019. I have a Wacom tablet and to get full functionality out of it I have to put in Corel's keyboard shortcut's. Well I assigned Ctrl 0 to an express key (this is what the rest of the world uses for "Fit Image to Window". Works fantastic then I shutdown PSPUlt 2019 key mapping - gone and express key does not work... BTW I would use the existing keymapping but Corel does not have one. Same thing for Increase/Decrease Brush size which does not exist as an option in the key commands at all.

Hello kaymann,

I don't have a tablet, but have you tried naming & saving your Workspace after setting up your shortcuts? You can then load it on demand. PSP is supposed to launch with the last used workspace (well, there is a Setting in the Prefernces) but it is broken in v2020.. so the only workaround we have right now is to save our workspce, and then load it back manually when we launch the program. The relative options are in the File->Workspaces menu.

As for the brush resizing, I had a quick look but couldn't find shortcuts for it. However, by holding down the ALT key while dragging the mouse up and down is the default short way of resizing your brush and it should work with the pen too.

I cannot disagree with any of your points. Corel programs are becoming more buggy with every release. I do not understand how they get away with releasing new features that don't work without fixing the old features that don't work. I too am seriously looking at switching to other products that in the long run are cheaper and better than corel. Especially if you count the time that is wasted listening to there stupid #$#$# support, which always start with delete everything and start over with no results, and they know it is a bug but they deny deny deny and waste your time.... Again sorry about the Rant.... I wonder if Marketplace would be interested in something like this....?

P.s. I also used and still have the original paint shop pro ver 1.0 before Corel and I believe before Jasc....

I save all my Corel Support experiences. I have often thought about starting a YouTube channel or something about Corel Support issues but It would be too unbelievable.... LOL But for some reason I stick with them because I feel some sense of Loyalty and in the end I did like their programs. Honestly though, that is coming very close to an end as with each new faulty release and lack of their loyalty to us users it is just getting to stupid!

For me In windows with psp If I hold down the Alt key on the keyboard and then Slide the mouse while holding down the left mouse button it adjusts the brush size as i slide the mouse. This works for most tools in psp.

Greetings the I have convert one of two pen buttons to alt can resize the brush that way thank you all!
Also to confirm in PSP Ult 2019 saving the desktop and reloading the workspace will hold onto the customized key commands.
You just have to save the workspace and then load the workspace to insure it is the checked workspace before shutting down.

A quick gripe while we are at it: In that other world that starts with an A every keyboard command is transferable between different products. In Corel however, Painter uses CTRL-ALT to change Brush size not just ALT as is used in PSP. Oh well.
