MSP with Windows 7

Post by drivinjim »

Is there any chance that Corel will issue a patch that will allow installation on a computer with Windows 7?

Corel took the decision to drop MSP as one of their products several years ago -- before Windows 7 ever appeared. As such, they are never going to issue a patch to make it compatible with Win 7... Sorry, but that's the reality.

Thanks for you quick response.

O.K., so what software does Corel offer that equates with MSP?

When I bought my first computter (sic) in 2001 it had VideoStudio 4 installed with a Windows 2000 Pro Operating System. I found the editing software to be very cumbersome. When I found, among the discs supplied, the MediaStudio Pro 6, I installed it and found it very easy to learn and work with. Subsequently I bought my second computer with an XP OS and upgraded to MSP 7.

Having a film school degree I like the idea of the A/B roll editing feature and the transition line in-between. I also like the video filters such as the Pan&Zoom and easy to use Transitions. This past year I started shooting everything in HD. In order to edit it on a single core machine and only 2GB of RAM I converted each video to Mpeg. Now I am getting a new, faster computer with Windows 7.

So, how can Corel keep me going in HD?

Corel no longer offers a program equivalent to MSP. However, Video Studio has made great strides since VS4. We are now at version 14 (X4). And it will do the various things you mention. Download the trial version and see for yourself. And certainly, with your new i7 machine, you should have no trouble with HD -- even the very demanding AVCHD format.

There is a perfect solution to operate MSP8 in Windows 7. The Microsoft solution of a virtual XP does not work.
But if you download VirtualBox from http://www.virtualbox.org you will see that this solution that Oracle offers, works great.
Also "good old" Videographics and COOL3D bring back what we enjoyed in the past with Ulead-software.
VirtualBox on my Quadcore 64 bits Acer laptop type Aspire 5750G works fast and no crash anymore. You need VirtualBox 4.1.8 for Windows hosts but also the VirtualBox 4.1.8 Oracle VM VirtualBox Extension Pack. Installation is a peace of cake.
I consider this solution even to be better than the dual-boot solution.
Regards and succes,
W.K.
