First Project with VideoStudio X10

Post by Dirk184 »

My first Project with Videostudio Ultimate X10.
It's about some "via ferrata" action in the alps.
The source material was a little bit shaky and of less quality.

That was pretty good, with good use of some of the effects in X10. I could even accept the slightly wobbly nature of some of the video, given that it was most probably from a camera attached to a helmet... But did you apply Mercalli to any of it? That will usually smooth out quite a lot of the shakiness.

But I also noted that in some of those video shots (e.g. crossing the rope bridge) that there was a lot of shearing of the image, even though there was no panning, rapid or otherwise, in those shots. So I am wondering if those video clips had properties which were different from the final Properties of the whole project e.g. where the video might have been filmed in 25P but the end project was rendered in 50P or vice versa.

Ken - many thanks for your feedback.
Yes indeed, the source material was from different cam types an the properties differ to (50i,50p, 25p, ...)
Whats your advice for the Project-Settings in VideoStudio? Should I use the minmal source settings (1280x720, 25p)

It really depends on what you are intending to do regarding product. If you are intending to burn Blu-Ray discs and want to use 50p video, then you are limited to 1280 x 720 under the international Blu-Ray standard. Otherwise, you would need to use 50i if the frame format is 1920 x 1080.

But if you are intending to produce videos only for plugging directly into a HDTV or via USB into a Blu-Ray player, or indeed for uploading to YouTube, then I would stick with 50p as much as possible. That might also lessen or even eradicate the shearing or combing that I mentioned if you film in 50p and then produce a final video at 50p as well.
