Re-Licensing GIF Animator 5

Post by ABonita »

I own a licensed copy of GIF Animator 5; it's been running, without issue, on my Windows XP machine since 2010. I have finally, after 15 years, upgraded to a new computer running Windows 10 Pro. I installed from my original downloaded install program, but it installs as a trial version. In theory, you can re-license (I still have the e-mail from the original installation) ... but the company which used to do the licensing, Softwrap, has been out of business for years. The program tries to contact a non-existent server for licensing. I have confirmed that the Windows Registry on the new Win 10 machine contains the correct serial number (I compared registry keys between the two machines). Corel Tech Support offers no tech support. (Which is pretty dispiriting for someone who's been using Corel software since Draw 3.) Any ideas on how I can get this working on my new machine? Thanks.

You don't need to reinstall it from the original installation package.

If, from your old computer, you can copy the entire Program files folder for GIF Animator to a USB, then you can put it on your new Win10 machine. Paste that folder to wherever you want on the new machine. It will just run. To create a shortcut, right-click on ga_main.exe and select Create shortcut. Copy and paste that shortcut to your desktop.

You would have to do some extra work to get .uga files to open using this program, and not the one you installed via your setup package, but it should work just fine. I did that with a Win10 machine and it runs just fine.
