[Sticky] -- Scripting Resources

So I hope no one minds me putting up a quick list of resources for scripting.

1) Scripting for Script Authors - The information is very close in both. I'm unsure of an exact comparison.

2) Scripting API - This is a complete list of all of the built in commands for PSP, the parameters for those commands, and the constants used to define them. This one is a bit harder. They made an API for X6 as well but I can't find a download for that at all. There are of course others like Suz's place but these are the more basic APIs that everyone will want to familiarize themselves with.

3) Learn the Basics of Python - 2.x (current versions use 2.7.5, much older versions might use 2.5 or 2.6) SOME OTHER USEFUL SCRIPT RESOURCE LINKS

Pixelnook (Gary Barton's Scripts - Free) - The site has since closed up shop but all of the scripts can be found here:
https://drive.google.com/open?id=1FjsUA ... JuqZHh1mbl

NOTE: Gary Barton's Pause Script is a "must have" to create scripts with multiple steps where you want to pause at intervals to do something that would otherwise be difficult or impossible to do from within the script. This might include, for example, aesthetic cropping, image alignment, text attribute selection, etc.
The Pause Script can be found in the PixelNook script download linked above

Thanks to you, Levifiction! I would say that your post, being the first, is exactly the way to start this sub-forum, providing as it does links to the resources to the basic scripting knowledge that will be very helpful for all people with any interest at all in scripting. For a person like myself, for example, who has some basic knowledge of what is involved but not that much above novice when it comes to creating scripts from scratch, while some of the resources have much more info than I might get around to learning they also contain some great info that is very useful for even the novice to be able to tweak scripts that we might start by recording them in PSP.

Thanks for this info to start off this sub-group!

The only one I found which didn't work (for me at least) was the Gary Barton Pause link. It was in any case contained in the wider preceding link to all of the Gary Barton scripts, but I have corrected the Pause link in any case.

Please let me know which other links don't work for you....

Hi Ken,

I tried the Gary Barton Pause link just now (before reading any further in the thread) and got a 404 error.

Edit: Same with the preceding more general Gary Barton link.

Yes, it looks ike the comcast link is no longer valid. Luckily his vapho link still works. I've updated the links to reflect this.

Not 100% on-point, but probably still helpful.

PSP scripts use the Python programming language. The Teaching Company has a self-study course on Computer Programming that teaches the basics of programming in Python. Their company philosophy is "something is always on sale" and "every course goes on sale at least once a year." Most courses go on sale several times a year. Also, you can put a course on a "wish list" and wait till it's on sale.

http://www.thegreatcourses.com/courses/ ... cises.html On sale, the course sells for around US$65. The only difference between the download and DVD's is whether you get physical disks and a physical coursebook.

I'm around lesson 19 out of 24 and the professor is excellent. (And I'm not saying that just because I'm the one who suggested that they offer a course in computer programming ....)

By the way, they also have courses on photography.
