Split screen template

Post by tafandi »

Hi, is it possible to edit a split screen template? Because I somehow always accidentally hit Esc in the process, which turns out it will auto-save/auto-close the editor... (speaking of which, a second question: is it possible to disable Esc there)

Thanks

Which version of video studio are you using, please update your profile to show these details.

Yes we can edit Split Screen Templates
However If you are viewing the Templates library – Split Screens then NO
Those can only be tweaked on the timelines by adding our images, but to re-edit then we have to use the Split Screen Templates Editor and those templates you see in the library cannot do that, confusing

Dragging IP-02 to the timeline will show 5 overlay tracks each containing a black placeholder.
Open the media library for your Images, drag a clip to the second placeholder and whilst pressing CTRL will change the cursor to Replace Clip, drop the image.
Repeat for each placeholder.
The effect has been created using Customise Motion

Ok

Create your own Split Screen Template

You can always open the templates Editor from the icon on the tool bar (last but one)

Top right select the Splitting Tool – Straight Line
Draw a vertical line, using the properties set the position of the line
Horizontal 0 will be down the middle

Draw another line horizontally, across the middle and you have 4 quarter sections
Drag Images from the library to each section
Press OK, do not use Export

Ok will return to the main timelines with a split screen montage clip in the library, your template showing on the timelines
A little more work to resize the images using the Customise Motion options or drag the image to resize on the preview screen

By the way your Split Screen clip in the library when double clicked will open the editor again.

I'm using VideoStudio Ultimate 2020.

So seems like from the split screen editor: if I choose "Export as template" it can't be re-edited (doubleclicking it doesn't do anything). But if I choose "OK" then it's re-editable?

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks

Yes that is Correct

Choosing Export creates an Instant Project type template showing in the Templates - Split Screen library, the actual template being saved to the hard drive here
C:\Users\User Name\Documents\Corel VideoStudio Pro\VSPTemplate

If you choose OK then a true Split Screen montage is created and saved to the Media library, in the same location as any other video file, you may be best to create your own library folder for these montages.
Using this clip will open the Split Screen Editor again allowing us to modify the template
